In honor of Spring Break 2k16, I couldn’t help but put a list together of the perfect albums that I jam to at the beach. There is something that is so relaxing about laying out in the sun and listening to music that fits the mood just right. As an active music listener, I’m a sucker for albums that coincide with whatever I’m doing. The following albums are some of the greatest albums to listen to when you’re in the mood to relax and unwind by the ocean.
Continuum – John Mayer
"Continuum" is 2008 pop perfection, as John Mayer’s smooth voice combined with infectious guitar rhythms makes you feel completely at ease. Take a day to yourself and really relax to this album while you’re in the sun. It really is the perfect beach album.
Standout Tracks: “I Don’t Trust Myself (With Loving You)” / “Vultures”
Sound & Color – Alabama Shakes
This is an album that takes a listen of two to really appreciate the greatness that it possesses. I really appreciates dynamic sounds, which is apparent in this album. I listened to this at the beach and it was different in a very refreshing way.
Standout Tracks: “Future People” / “Gimme All Your Love”
Legend – Bob Marley and the Wailers
I mean, can you blame me for putting this on my list? The smooth reggae vibes provide the perfect soundtrack to a day at the beach. Not only does this album set the tone for a beach day, but also an evening spent watching the sunset.
Standout Tracks: “Is This Love” / “Could You Be Loved”
The Foundation – Zac Brown Band
For all of the country music fans, this album is for you. Not only does the album feature the track “Toes,” which is a beach anthem expressing desire of putting toes in the sand, the album also has moments of refreshing harmonies and sultry guitar sounds.
Standout Tracks: “Toes” / “Free”
A Head Full of Dreams – Coldplay
This is Coldplay’s latest effort, which took an up-tempo turn from their previous albums. With this album, the band combined their forces to create an alternative/pop vibe that features exciting instrumental moments that are perfect for the beach.
Standout Tracks: “Hymn for the Weekend” / “Fun (feat. Tove Lo)”
Rumours – Fleetwood Mac
Anyone that knows me personally is aware of my obsession with Fleetwood Mac. This album was a game changer in the 1970s. I couldn’t help but add this to my list in an effort to spread the word on how much this album completely rules. The entire album has this sort of throwback feel to it that almost everyone can enjoy. Listen to this when you’re lying out.
Standout Tracks: “Dreams” / “You Make Loving Fun”
Dream Your Life Away – Vance Joy
Newcomer Vance Joy released one of the most chilled-out albums I’ve heard. The entire set is a warm adaptation of lyrical mastermind. I put this album on when I first got to the beach and it really set the tone to how relaxed I was going to be throughout the day.
Standout Tracks: “Riptide” / “Georgia”
Lungs – Florence + The Machine
Definitely one of the most soulful albums I have provided here. Florence Welch really nailed it with this debut album that I constantly return to. I really enjoy how vibrant and assertive she is on this album. It really put me into an excited and pumped mood to play corn hole in the sand while the sun was beaming down.
Standout Tracks: “Dog Days Are Over” / “Drumming Song”
