The Best Albums of 2015: The Favorites, The Forgotten, The EPs

2015 had some good albums. Let's recap.

The Best Albums of 2015: The Favorites, The Forgotten, The EPs

I am noticing a trend in the music industry: artists are typically releasing albums every two to three years depending on successes of touring, singles, and other opportunities (fragrance, film, Broadway). This means that a majority of artists that we love are taking way too long to create new music. This year we finally got our music, from mainstream pop icons like Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus to comebacks from Justin Bieber and Drake. Then we had Adele make everyone freak the hell out. It was just a good year for music, especially since mainstream pop has opened its arms to more variety. So here are the best albums of 2015.

Kelly Clarkson: Piece by Piece

The best part about this girl is that she does not even realize what an icon she has become. The first "American Idol" winner's latest album combines killer vocals and high energy dance material. It is unlike anything that the pop superstar has put out, and oddly enough did not get much radio time. The album and its single "Heartbeat Song" are both nominated for Grammys this year.

Mumford and Sons: Wilder Mind

Such a good band to listen to and just relax to. They have an aesthetic and they remain true to it in this album. And do not even get me started on the harmonies. It is artists such as Mumford and Songs that have reinvented popular music, allowing for other artists like Hozier to enter into the mainstream wave. Cheers to these guys!

Pentatonix: Pentatonix

I honestly have paid no mind to this group until this album. The a cappella group debuts original songs, with a couple of mainstream remakes as well, in their self-titled album. The talent and enthusiasm in these guys is just so evident. Need a feel-good pick-me-up? Listen to this album. It will make you "Sing"!

Meghan Trainor: Title

I feel like everyone thinks of Trainor as a one-hit wonder because of how annoyingly popular "All About That Bass" was, but this album is reminiscent of another era with so many good songs. "Lips are Movin" and "Dear Future Husband" are my personal favorites in case you were wondering. You probably were.

Justin Bieber: Purpose

Talk about a comeback kid. If you were not a Biebs fan before, you are now. Purpose slows down Bieber's music to capture countless thoughts and emotions. If you are not sure if it's worth the download, just turn on the radio. After all, how many singles are out right now? Exactly.

Fall Out Boy: American Beauty / American Psycho

I am not sure what is is but the guys of FOB seem so likable. They have a real presence where you can tell that they just don't care and it comes off in a really refreshing way. The album itself has not gotten a lot of momentum but the singles are still making their way to radio. The album actually is threaded together well with the main theme of modern culture and lifestyle at its core.

Ella Henderson: Chapter One

Newcomer Henderson comes from the UK's "The X Factor" and delivers one hell of a debut album. She has such a unique voice and just knows how to deliver songs. You might have heard her song "Ghost" on the radio though I am bummed we have not had more singles from her. This album gives me life though.

Selena Gomez: Revival

Gomez's best album to date. She clearly steps up her game with mature lyrics and an authentic vibe that just connects with you. "Hands to Myself" is set to be her next single with the video having recently been released.

Ciara: Jackie

Raise your hand if you had any idea that Ciara released an album this year. Look around — no one is raising their hand. The thing is that this album has so many levels that prove that this girl does not get enough credit. It is definitely worth your time on the drive home.

Adele: 25

Hello, number one selling album. Adele is not my favorite artist but her new sound is undeniably brilliant. "Hello" has clearly set the bar high for upcoming singles from the album as well, as it is currently number one on iTunes. Maybe she should have named the album 1 instead — that might have worked.

Not only were there amazing albums that came out, but there were also some cool Extended Plays that launched this year to just give us a glimpse at some of the up-and-coming talent the music industry has to offer.

DNCE: SWAAY - EP

Joe Jonas takes the lead in this new band that apparently eats "Cake by the Ocean". The band, clearly getting lots of free publicity from Nick Jonas, has taken off with a small venue tour that has sold out everywhere. Also, a majority of the songs are about starting out dating somebody. If this is not the most relatable thing in the world then I do not know what is.

Hailee Steinfeld: Haiz - EP

You might recognize this singer from her role in Pitch Perfect 2, singing the original song "Flashlight". She was doing some serious acting because Steinfeld is a badass. She doesn't care and this EP is way too good.

Bonnie McKee: Bombastic - EP

This girl has been in the game for over a decade with little recognition as a performer herself. After reinventing herself as a songwriter, she releases a very high-energy pop album with the title song being the perfect song to sing the shower to. She's like a talented Ke$ha/Kesha? Yeah, that sounds about right.

Rachel Platten: Fight Song - EP

I first saw this lady open up for Andy Grammer earlier this year and she blew me away. She ended her acoustic set with "Fight Song," which months later blew up the nation as an anthem for anyone and everyone. Platten has a really well written EP with all of the songs being on her upcoming album Wildfire due out Jan. 1, 2016.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
