When we were little rainy days were the best days, jumping in puddles, playing in the mud, and of course a perfect excuse to whip out your newest lady bug umbrella. Growing up sucks in the fact that if I were to go outside and play in the mud right now, people would for sure think I’m drunk. Therefore I have learned to appreciate other aspects about rainy days like, the lazy feeling they give me, the ambient noise of water droplets, post-rain smell, and coincidentally also a perfect excuse to whip out my newest pair of rain boots.
Rainy days personally put me in the mood to curl up under a thousand blankets and watch Netflix for an unreasonable amount of time. I’m not even a big reader but there is also something about gloomy skies that makes me want to pick up a book or two. Days like this are made for coming at peace with your mind, body, and soul.
There’s something comforting about listening to the live music of rain. A million water droplets hitting the window become one to form a beautiful melody. Nothing beats falling asleep to the sweet sound of rain, which eventually becomes white noise. (I like to believe it’s mother nature singing us bed time lullabies.) When this music finally stops, the after math of the damp earth results in an indescribable fresh smell that somehow makes you feel nostalgic.
Now don’t get me wrong when dark clouds devour the sun right before my outside plans or after straightening my hair, rain can be utterly annoying. Which makes me realize that that’s the beauty of rain. It’s something no one can control; completely out of human power. This adds a pinch of excitement and mystery to ordinary days when rain is added in to the equation. So next time it rains, take it all in, appreciate the beauty of nature, and get lost in the music of the rain.
