As an avid Disney Channel viewer, I can pretty much recite any line from any Disney Channel Original movie. While "Smart House," "Zenon," and "Pixel Perfect" are definitely some of my favorite movies, I have to say that Disney hit a home run with their Halloween movies. Every single one is Oscar-worthy, in my opinion. "Phantom of the Megaplex" and "Mom's Got A Date With A Vampire" are definitely classics and if you haven't seen them yet, you need to this Halloween season. However, the two must-see Disney Channel movies for this spooky holiday are without a doubt "Hocus Pocus" and "Halloweentown."
Not only are these two of the most popular Disney Channel movies, but they are two of my favorites. Both movies balance the the perfect amount of scary, dramatic, and humorous, but which one does it better? Which one could you watch just a little more than the other? I'm here to compare the two, to help you decide which one you watch on Halloween night.
Which one is scarier? While both will probably not keep you up at night with the closet light on, they both are Halloween movies for a reason. I'm going to have to say "Hocus Pocus" is the winner on this on. The three witches still give me the creeps, and the thought of being eaten by them as a kid always scared me.
Which one is more realistic? Okay let's be honest, what Halloween movie is that realistic? But Halloweentown" was always something that I wanted to be real, so that counts right? Like how cool would it be to have a whole different world that was Halloween all the time. I know where I would be visiting every October.
Which movie has better acting? I would give this one to "Halloweentown" as well. Not only is the acting better, but with each sequel of "Halloweentown" the acting only improves. Let's not talk about the last movie though, when they switch out the character of who played Marnie. I am still bitter about it.
Which has better costumes? Okay, both are pretty awesome. However, the three witches in "Hocus Pocus" are pretty much staples to what witch costumes have become, so I would say that they win this one. The three different robes and hairstyles, matched with some pretty distinct makeup stands out. This movie definitely provided some of the most memorable Halloween movie costumes of all time.
So, I hope this article got you in the holiday spirit and convinced you to pull out the old VHS tapes of these two classic Halloween movies. Let's be honest, you can't see these movies enough! So next time you find a few hours of free time, curl up on your couch with your roomies and eat some candy corn while you return to your childhood for a night.
