The Bad Days

How do we get through them?

The Bad Days

Have you ever had a day where you start it bright and shiny, but as it goes by it slowly deteriorates into an abyss of destruction?

Those are the days where one bad thing happens after another, and the day just never seems to end. A day where you have this gut feeling that something might happen, but in your seemingly happy moments, the pang of fear is ignored. For some of us, who battle with depression and anxiety, and for those of us who constantly need to control everything - a bad day can be equivalent to the world falling apart.

Then the bad moment happens. Then another one. By the end of the night, it's you trying to bury yourself in a hole, or figuring out a way to not let yourself drown in your tears of misery.

Aside from all the dark talk, how do you save yourself from a bad day?

I could talk to my parents and cry and vent, but that would only result in them worrying. So I guess I'll avoid it. I could talk to a friend, but they might not realize how this day is affecting me. Even the tiniest matter is squeezing my gut to uncomfortableness.

So you tell yourself - it's one day. The rest of the days that feel bad are basically shockwaves of that one bad day. It's that day. That only bad day in a while. It may seem impossible in the moment, but you will get over it

You'll go to sleep possibly with tear-streaked cheeks, and wake up with puffy eyes and a swollen face, but you'll wake up lighter. You'll wake up with all the mess from yesterday lingering in the air still unanswered, but you'll also wake up feeling one percent better. Know your resources, know your people because even if you can't talk to them on your bad day, it does not mean you won't talk to them the next day. You're gonna look back at this day and laugh at how insignificant these events were.

You having a bad day does not make you a burden on someone else, and it does not suggest some sort of karmic retribution. Mistakes were made and test grades were not good, you had a fight with a friend - all those problems make you human. Those bad days build character. They keep life exciting in a weird, twisted way. So instead of wallowing in your self-pity on a bad day, you can bring yourself back to a state of happiness. So pick yourself up, dust off the bad day from your shoulders and conquer the problem that will continue to make your days bad.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
