Lately I’ve been thinking about what would be on my bucket list. For those who have no idea what a bucket list is, it’s an amalgamation of things a person wants to do before they die. The most stereotypical thing on these lists are “go to a different country” or “skydiving.” While the former is definitely on my list, I don’t want to skydive, because you know, heights are scary. But other than that one, there are some items on this list that I would think stray from the norm of the quintessential list of buckets. I will now present you with those items, which I will refer to as a whole a part of “The Average Human’s Bucket List.”
1. Graduate College
As a college student, this is probably the most important to me at the moment. With all the hours of work that I have put into being a student at Western, I’d be really pissed if I didn’t see it through to the end. As one of the only people in my direct family to ever go to a four-year university, this adds even more meaning to my graduation.
2. Have My Own House
My family has never had an actual house that we have called our own. It’s usually been apartments and at one point a condo that I suppose we owned, but it’s always been a dream of mine to live in a nice two-storey house somewhere in the world that I could call mine.
3. Get a Dog
Fun fact! I love dogs. I have wanted one for as long as I could remember. Growing up around them has swayed me in the direction of being a dog-lover. So sometime in the future, when I can financially support another life, I will get one. Specifically, an Australian Shepherd, because they’re so damn adorable!
4. Do Something with My Degree
Every time I ever go see anyone that I know, there is a question that is constantly asked. "So uh… What are you gonna do with your English major?” Honestly, I have no clue. It’s one of the most terrifying things to think about because if I don’t do anything with my eventual English degree, it will make my college career look like it amounted to nothing. I could say “write some award-winning books” like an idiot, but I know that’s not how that works. I want an actual answer to give, like “I’m going into publishing,” or, “I’ll edit for a newspaper.”
I could go on and on about what I want to eventually do with my life, but I’ll leave it there. I want to leave you with this question though. If you were to have your own Average Human’s Bucket List, what might it contain?
