I just saw "Captain America: Civil War." And it was amazing, and nothing like I expected it to be. I was expecting them to start bringing the whole team together in anticipation for the next two Avengers movies. I was expecting them to find the rest of the infinity stones. I was expecting for (spoiler alert) someone to die in order to bring the team together.
Oh well. Let's break down this beast of a movie. Keep in mind, this article will definitely have some spoilers in it. All the more reason to see the movie, I suppose!
The first thing you should know is that Marvel put their A-game (pun intended) into this film. Though the Hulk and Thor were M.I.A., the new additions made for quite a spectacle. The Scarlet Witch and Vision showed tremendous power during the length of the film as to showcase their full potential after "Age of Ultron."
Ant-Man and Spider-Man also kind of kicked ass. We get tons of snarky comments and comedic relief from these guys as well. The two characters definitely had the most to prove as their performances in "Civil War" will either make or break their solo careers ("Ant-Man" sequel and a Spiderman origin story).
Marvel did get a little more cheeky as well. I was honestly surprised at the amount of swear words that occurred during the movie with it being a more family-friendly genre. Obviously, "Deadpool" gave Marvel, and Disney, a bit of courage.
Next thing to know, Black Panther also made his debut during the film. Though the end of the movie left me questioning how much more we will see of him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Actually, the end of the film left me questioning everything I know about the Avengers.
As you can guess from the movie trailers, some of the Avengers are now technically criminals. And this is how the movie ends. We are left wondering what is going to happen to the fragmented team. We are left wondering how this will fit into MCU and the next two Avenger films. How am I supposed to live with these questions??
The end credits did not help at all shockingly. For clarification, there were two clips. One focusing on what happens with the Winter Soldier, with another clip strictly focusing on building excitement for a solo Spider-Man film. Both giving us no new information on the Avengers and their post "Civil War" lives.
The best part of the movie was the face-off between team Captain America and team Iron Man. The ultimate superhero battle! Excuse me while I geek out for a second. Imagine Captain America and Black Panther going at it while Ant-Man infiltrates Iron Man's suit. Spider-Man taking on both the Winter Soldier and Falcon at once! Best buds Black Widow and Hawkeye in hand-to-hand combat!
This epic fight sequence was seriously everything and more. It gave equal air time to all members, showcasing strengths and weaknesses of both parties. It also had some girth to it. This was a major plot point of the film, and Marvel definitely wanted to showcase their cast.
Overall, go see this film in theaters. I know I plan on seeing it again.
