Procrastination is a subject that every college student wishes that they could major in. Obviously it’s much easier to avoid your responsibilities than it is to actually sit down and take care of them.
With the advent of Netflix, Reddit, and Spotify, procrastination is easier now than ever. With finals week approaching, procrastination kicks into overdrive because of how overwhelming a couple of exams are.
You’re not alone in your procrastination. Everyone puts up with it. Some of the most famous writers in history have dealt with the nagging feeling of putting off work. Charles Dickens refused to write at any desk that wasn’t decorated to his liking. He would carry around nine trinkets anytime he traveled because he was so afraid of procrastination setting in and holding him back.
Bill Watterson, the genius behind Calvin and Hobbes, has his own perspective on procrastination. He believes that, “you can’t just turn on creativity like a faucet. You have to be in the right mood. What mood is that? Last-minute panic.” I know that I work best under the impending doom of a deadline and if it works for Mr. Watterson, it can work for me, too. The best way to beat procrastination sounds pretty typical, but at the same time simplicity is bliss. Whatever it is that you are putting off, devote as much time as possible to it. Finals are coming. Stop watching Netflix and start studying. It just so happens that studying is the best way to get good grades.
