Have you ever had a long day, and you just want to spend the night at home only to find out that you can't stay in after all? I actually experienced this coming home from a full shift at work one night. The moment I came home from work I kicked off my shoes, left a trail of unnecessary clothes in my room, and went to the kitchen in search for dinner. Before I managed to put some food on my plate, my mom comes in and asks if I had plans for the night, which obviously I didn't, then proceeded to ask if I was willing to attend a wedding. Usually, my family tells me beforehand about such formal events mainly because the process of getting ready for them is an art. Anyway, I surprisingly agreed to join my parents for this mysterious wedding and had a little under an hour to look fabulous. Any girl that happens to stumble across this article will agree that being rushed for a formal event is not ideal for many reasons.
One of the first things that you need to know about getting ready for last minute events is what you're going to wear. Fortunately, I had something formal to wear in my closet that I have worn to many other events that were with different people so I was able to wear the dress to this event without anybody knowing it was a repeat outfit. If I didn't have anything formal to wear, then I would have resorted to looking for some casual attire. Dress it up with a nice jacket or blazer combined with a lot of accessories to make it appear like you were ready for the event even though it was really short notice. Another thing to consider with attire is the footwear. Footwear can make or break your outfit. If I was to wear something casual, like jeans and a flowy top, I could make the outfit nicer by wearing heels rather than flats or sandals. Once you have determined what your event outfit is, then you can tailor the other issues you may encounter with the outfit.
The next thing you need to figure out is how to style your hair. While guys can usually style their hair quickly all the time and still look good, women have to struggle with a lot more. It is a true art form. From combing your hair, to actually using a curling or straightening iron, women can actually take up to an hour to style their hair on a day to day basis, let alone for a formal event. Since I happen to have somewhat shorter hair than everyone else, I was able to get help from my mother to comb my hair. Usually, for formal events, I go all out and actually spend the time to either straighten or curl my hair but for this last minute event I had my mom help put my hair in some braids, cutting my usual hair styling time by 40 minutes.
The final thing that you may need to consider about last minutes events is your makeup. Should your makeup be dramatic or natural? Do you go heavy on the eyes and subtle lips or heavy lips with subtle eyes? Regardless of what you decide to do, you just have to make sure that you pay attention to the details of your makeup. As women, we know how to approach makeup without making ourselves look like a mess, but when it comes to being rushed for an event the possibility of it becoming a mess is high.
Overall, everyone shouldn't have to always expect to attend events at a moments notice, but there is always going to be a possibility of that happening. It is just matter of being prepared for such events even if it was unexpectedly sprung on you.
