The Art Of Feeling Unqualified

The real truth behind feeling unqualified.

Have you ever felt like you just weren’t good at something?

It doesn’t have to be something in relation to God. It may be, but if not, that’s OK. We’ll get there. It could simply be a task that you spent hours trying to accomplish, but you couldn’t seem to understand and be good at.

I’m sure we’ve all been there. No one does something the best way the first time they try it. Honestly, think about it. What is it in life that you enjoy doing the most? It may honestly be something very simple, like sleeping, eating or binge watching Netflix. I'm serious, it can be anything.

Over time, I'm sure you can admit that when you first attempted anything, you didn’t do it the best way possible. This is true for the most basic stuff in our lives.

When we are first born, we try to walk and we fall. When we try to talk, no one understands us. We try to eat and it ends up in our lap. We try to drink and we spill it all over the place. We try going to the bathroom and, well, you get my point.

It's a simple fact of life. No one does something the best the first time.

As Christians, when God first enters into our hearts and we truly accept the Gospel for the first time, we are “born again.” Yes, I know this term is overused, but it does accurately describe the state in which we are in, spiritually. Ephesians 2:1: “As for you, you were dead in your trespasses and sins.” This is Paul talking to those who were not alive in Christ. They were dead. That means before we came to Christ, we were nothing. Spiritually speaking, we “did not exist.”

However, once we were made alive through the power of Christ, just as Christ rose from the dead, we became alive “spiritually” for the first time.

So what’s my point?

My point is that in life in general, but especially as Christians, we're not going to be the best at something the first time. In fact, there are going to be times where we aren’t “good” at all.

I’m sure this is where you may begin to feel unqualified. You feel like you aren’t good at something, and neither can you be used by God. But that is when God uses us the most.

I believe that the three people God used the most in Bible, apart from Christ, were Jacob, David and Paul. Jacob was later named Israel, God’s chosen people. David was given the Davidic Covenant, which promised that the son of God would come through David’s bloodline. And then you have Paul, who wrote over 70 percent of the New Testament.

All of that stuff sounds great, right? But remember all of the flaws each of these men had.

Jacob literally wrestled with God and stole the birthright from his brother. David, in one situation, lusted, committed adultery, lied, deceived and murdered across the board. Paul persecuted and killed Christians. We have one man who literally fought God and stole from his brother. A man who committed adultery and then covered it up by murdering someone. And finally a mass murderer, who killed hundreds of Christians. Pretty messed up, right? But look at how God used them!

I am not saying God excused their behavior. Their actions did have consequences and caused them difficulties in their lives, but God still used them in amazing ways! When they came to repent, God’s grace overshadowed their failures. It doesn’t matter how big or small the failures we have in this life.

Right now, if you are in a state of feeling unqualified, good. You are right where God wants you to be, in order to use you.

Now it’s up to you to accept the Grace and the Salvation He has gifted you with, repent of any wrongdoings you have done and run towards Him down the path He has created for you!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
