Discipline is a difficult topic and it starts with just one choice: do you give up. Getting up at 4:00 in the morning for some people is impossible. Going to the gym every day, for some people, is impossible. Reading and working on your mind, for some people, is impossible. Les Brown said, “Do what is easy and your life will be hard, do what is hard and your life will be easy.” Discipline is the same if you do the thing that you wish not to do it will gradually get easier. It is simple when it is spoken but it is the hardest thing humanly possible when put into practice.
The art of discipline is the art of controlling your mind. From the time someone wakes up to the time they go to sleep their lives are a battle. This battle wages from the simple act of getting up in the morning to large life changing items like making a deadline at work. All of these things require discipline. From a young age, people are taught two things by society. Do what your heart tells you and chase happiness. There are those, however, who understand that nothing just falls into anyone’s laps we must work for it. These people are the ones who wake up at four in the morning to begin their work. They are the disciplined to someone who does not understand them they are superhuman. They have controlled their mind.
Discipline also understands the need to work hard for the future. It sparks a fire in people that leads to them working hard and chasing their dreams. These people work hard and long hours for the ability to overcome obstacles. They have a well-rounded plethora of skills. They work on their mind, body and soul and understand that all three need to be in working order to help a person grow. While some disciplined people may only work on one of these three things, it is of the utmost importance that all three things be worked on. Without one, the others will eventually fail, unlike our strengths and weakness which need to be embraced. These three things must stay in a constant motion. This is the secret behind being a truly disciplined people.
To unlock the door to become a truly disciplined person all you have to say is one thing: failure is not an option. The removal of excuses and the removal of the chance to bail creates only one option to complete the task at hand. The conquering of one’s mind is simple but ultimately requires this choice to be made. Once there is no other option the only thing that can occur is success. Will Smith said “ you may be smarter than me. You may be more talented than me. But if we get on a treadmill either you are getting off before me or I will die on it.” Just imagine a world where everyone thinks I will not fail, a world where everyone is disciplined. We would be able to accomplish anything and everything.
