So picture this. I’m sitting in bed and watching television to avoid my life’s responsibilities and the commercials start to come on. I see my homegirl Carrie Underwood on the TV so naturally, I shift my attention from Instagram to her. She is endorsing the Almay makeup brand. She looked so cute in the video and I already wanted to know more about the product. I went on their page and the first thing I saw was “The American Look.” I thought to myself “well I love America, maybe I should check out this makeup.” Well it turns out; I can’t wear their makeup. They don’t offer a shade dark enough for me. This made me really sad. I’m American. I love America. I have a pocket Constitution! But according to them, I can’t achieve “The American Look” because I am a few shades too dark. Don’t get me wrong, companies of course have the right to offer whatever products they want and target their products to whoever they want. But I want to show you what I think “The American Look” is and what American beauty truly is.

I went around my campus and just asked girls to send me their favorite pictures of themselves. All of these girls were found here, in America! And all of these girls are incredibly beautiful. These girls have “The American Look.”

I hope you see the point I am trying to make. I am not saying that the people this product caters to doesn't have American beauty. I am trying to say that every woman in America has “The American Look” or American beauty. It doesn’t matter what your skin tone is or your size or shape. It doesn’t matter what color or texture your hair is. It doesn’t matter what color your eyes are or the shape of your nose or lips. It doesn’t even matter if you wear makeup or not. This is America! There are so many different types of cultures and looks, so many types of fashion…we should embrace all of these things. All of these girls are so beautiful. They live in America. And therefore, they have the American look.
