The College of Saint Rose

Whether you love them or hate them, there are just some aspects of Saint Rose that are undeniable. You have your favorite people at the dining hall, your go-to stop before you hit up whatever is going on that weekend, and whichever beloved freshman dorm you lived in. Here are some things that every Saint Rose student knows to be true:

A- Annie

Annie from the dining hall is easily one of Strose’s most popular faculty members. Even if the food sucks that day, once Annie tells you to “Enjoy your breakfast” you just have to.

B- Brubacher Hall

Serving as one of the two freshman dorms, Brubacher Hall holds a special place in many Strose students hearts. The walls are too thin, it’s always dirty and the walk to campus can be so tedious, but the residents often wouldn’t trade it for anything.

C- Camelot

As long as you have some dining dollars and like 45 minutes to spare and wait on line, Camelot is kinda the bomb.

D- DP Dough

Easily one of the best places to order out from in Albany. It’s just so good and it fits into a college student’s budget quite easily.

E- EAC

Home of the dining hall, Cam, Starbucks, the gym, and just basically everything besides your dorm and your classrooms.

F- Friends

I have met my lifetime friends at Saint Rose. It’s hard not to when we have such a tight knit community!

G- Golden Knights

The mascot of our school, and the one thing you will probably never hear a Saint Rose student refer to themselves as. It just doesn’t flow I guess.

H- Home

Whether you live here or you commute, you probably consider Strose your home. And plus, most of the dorms are actually houses, so that’s pretty cool too.

I- Intramurals

From dodgeball to volleyball, Strose has tons of intramural sports teams.

J- Jimmy Fallon

Possibly the coolest alumnus Saint Rose has. Any student will bring up the fact that he went to our school as much as we can, and for good reason.

K- Kids

Along with being a major education school, Strose has tons of programs for kids. Help Yourself Academy and Friday Knights are just a few. Plus, there’s always some little ones coming from swim class on the weekends. Little kids are always running around here.

L- Lima

The second freshman dorm that’s actually on the Saint Rose campus. If you live on campus, you have definitely debated whether or not Lima is better than Bru. Though I stand by my beloved Bru, I’m sure the walk to class in the winter is way better.

M- Madison’s Pizza

Every Strose student has their pizza place. For a lot of us, it’s Madisons.

N- New York State Capital

A lot of times, students forget that we live in the capital city of New York. If you get a chance, go downtown and look at some of the cool buildings. Albany is rich with history!

O- Ordering in

With DHall quality and just so many delicious off-campus options, its hard not to order in all the time. Tortellini Alfredo from Paesan’s? Yes please!

P- Pine Hills Market

The guys at Pine are my DUDES! I can honestly say I look forward to seeing them on the weekends… but I still wouldn’t order wings from there. Just saying.

Q- Quad

If it's over 50 degrees, you will see people on the Saint Rose quad playing soccer, frisbee, or just hanging out with friends.

R- Rooftops

Once the weather gets nice, you cannot walk within a few blocks of campus without seeing people hanging out on their roofs. It’s pretty awesome.

S- Sid

In case y’all didn’t know, this is the man, (the myth and the legend) that works the grill in the mornings and afternoons. If Sid isn’t there, my breakfast is significantly worse. He makes a mean scrambled egg.

T- The Pub

Dollar beers anyone?

U- UAlbany

Our neighboring school. The size of it just absolutely amazes Saint Rose students (“I could never go to a school that big”), but if there’s nothing else going on on the weekends, there’s no harm in asking a Great Dane if they’ve heard of anything good.

V- Varsity Lounge

It’s not the nicest place, but it is an experience. If there's nothing else to do, V Lounge is a very viable option.

W- Western Ave

Guarantee that at some point, you have confused the Western side of campus with the Madison side; it happens to the best of us. If you’re coming to or from Bru, the walk down Western feels like it’s a mile long on some days.

X- X-Tasy Fries

… or just Chicken Joes in general…

Y- Yellow and Black

The infamous color combination. You didn’t think you could pull yellow off before you got here, but alas, you can totally rock it.

Z- ZERO WiFi connection

Like ever. I don’t think I have had a single day here where I have not complained about the WiFi at some point. Get it together Strose.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
