Finals week is dreaded by college students all over the nation. Here are the ABCs that solely define finals week.
A – All-nighters
Finals week is the start of many sleepless nights. Students spend all their time, to the last minute even, cramming all that they can.
B – swamped with Books
Not only do students cram what they can, but they also tend to be swamped with textbooks, reading each and every word.
C – Closed-off
Some students like to study alone and therefore close themselves off from society - from the outside world, from people, from everything.
D – Deadlines
Along with finals comes an immense amount of work with deadlines that quickly approach. And these deadlines are so tight and close to each other that there's no time to relax.
E – Emotional
Emotions run really high during studying. People could get snippy, they could get stressed, they could even break into tears.
F – Friends and Family
But sometimes even with all this work, it's good to rely on a support team to stay sane. These include friends and most importantly, family.
G – Grades
Finals, more often than not, determine a student's grades for the semester. They count for so much that any mistake made can hurt the final grade; but at the same time, a student can also turn around a poor performance for the better.
H – un-Hygienic
Students can get so into studying that they forget to stay hygienic, which includes taking a shower. This is rare, but it does happen.
I – Ice cream
Food and finals have a relationship that spans many years. And ice cream is just one of the many treats consumed during this week.
J – Jokes
Students need to take few-minute breaks once in a while. Maybe to laugh a little or to spend it with a friend - if they don't, they might drive themselves insane staring at a textbook all day.
K – Kindness
Everyone is in a lot of stress and tension during finals. Try to be nice and avoid being snippy as much as possible.
L – Library
The library is a student's best friend during finals. So many students who may or may not have ever entered the library take advantage of it during this week.
M – Meals
It's imperative that students eat during finals. And on the day of, it is of utmost important to have breakfast in the morning (and lunch depending on late the test is) to stay alert.
N – No Netflix
It is imperative that students stay away from distractions like Netflix as much as possible so that they get the most out of their studying and can get grades with which they are happy.
O – Obstacles
There will be many obstacles during the week, but the key for students is to overcome them all and come out alive.
P – Procrastination
Even though students know that they should start studying earlier, procrastination plays it role yet again and students don't start till a few days (maybe even a day) before the test.
Q – Quiet
Some students like working in groups while others prefer quiet areas.
R – Relief
After every test, and especially after the last test, there's just this sense of relief and a sense of excitement to go home.
S – Stress
Finals week in general is super stressful and
T – Test-Taking
Each final is about 2 and a half hours. This is almost as long as an SAT, a student's worst test-taking nightmare. Taking a test in general is miserable, but 2 and a half hours is a pain.
U – Ugly
Things can get really ugly during this week - both emotionally and physically. With emotions running high and students not caring about their appearances, the entire week isn't pleasant at all.
V – Volume
The volume of studying that needs to be done can range from little (maybe?) to reading word for word of the textbook.
W – Weekend
Weekend? What weekend? The weekend before finals isn't really a weekend at all. And with finals at Villanova starting on a Saturday, the weekend is even more
X – eXpectations
Students go into finals with their own expectations and with the expectations of their parents.
Y – should've done this Yesterday
Students have to use their time wisely and make sure they don't have any regrets when going into a final. They should study to the best of their ability.
Z – in-the-Zone
Students are very much in-the-zone when studying for finals because they can't let distractions get to them. Sometimes they're so focused that it's hard to get their attention at all.
