26 Things You Recognize If You're From Commack, New York

If you're from Commack, New York you definitely know all of these places. To all my friends who are currently in college like myself, I'm sure you miss this town...even just a bit...maybe.

Applebees

You know, the one by Target on Veterans Memorial Highway. The place where you see basically everyone from your high school on a Friday or Saturday night for some half off app’s.

Bagel Chalet;

Best bagel place EVER. No questions on that.

Candlelight Diner

I was debating whether Premier Diner or Candlelight Diner was better... I came to a realization, that A LOT of people where I went to high school go to candlelight dinner after a school event.

Dunkin Donuts

I always need my medium iced coffee with 7 pumps of caramel and half and half before my day starts as well as a bacon, egg, and cheese on a croissant.

Emilio's Pizzeria

Okay okay, every pizza place in Commack is so good but there’s just something about Emilio’s Pizzeria that makes the pizza bomb.com.

Friendly's

Ice cream? Friendly's. Apps after 8 instead of waiting till 10 for Applebees? Friendly’s. A place that was popular for the middle school kids back in like…2011? Friendly’s.

Greek Village Restaurant

A Greek Salad is amazing from here especially pita bread with the tzatziki sauce.

Harned Road

If you live in Commack South, you definitely know this road.

Izumi

Best hibachi place with the best sushi, duh.

Jericho Turnpike

The busiest road in the afternoon that we try to avoid…but can’t, unfortunately.

King Kullen

Ya know, the one where sports authority used to be, the one near Miller’s Ale House and Target.

LIE

Wanna get to Montauk? Take the LIE.

Millers Ale House

Best place to go with friends on a Friday or Saturday night … personally, there nachos are to die for but that’s just my opinion.

North East Dance Academy

I grew up dancing here and now my two sisters and cousin dance here so I’m supportive of this dance studio!

Outback Steakhouse

Best blooming onion everrrrr.

Plaster Funcraft

Childhood? DUH! Come on girls, we definitely had a birthday party here when we were little or at least have been here for a friends birthday!

Quick Stop Deli & Catering

Right next to Gasoline Heaven.

RX Express

Where to get your medicine or even scratch off’s.

Spare Rib

The restaurant across from Friendly’s/ Bar Louie.

Target

Come on, we def know Target.

Ulta

Where girls get makeup and other beauty products to look good, of course.

Vanco Pharmacy

Commack South area right next to North Shore Farms.

Wendy’s

FROSTY.

X-cellant School District

We’re a blue ribbon school of excellence. Commack had the highest Regents Diploma rate of all comprehensive Suffolk County Districts. Ninety-five percent of its graduating seniors went to colleges of their choice.

Yogurt Crazy

The best froyo around with great toppings.

nyZ Apocalypse

Okay, yes, I know this is in Deer Park but a lot of people from Commack go here for a great scare!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
