Finals are not only incredibly stressful, they bring a bunch of different emotions. From optimistic to clueless and everything in between, there's a lot of feelings going around. Don't worry, you're not the only one whose emotions are all over the place. Everyone is an emotional wreck at this point in the semester.
1. Optimism
A few weeks before finals, you're feeling good. You have plenty of time to study, so it shouldn't be that bad! You have more than enough time to get everything done.
2. Denial
3. Fear
4. Worry
Now, you can't help but think about everything you could mess up during finals week, from the actual exams to the final papers that you still need to turn in. You think about the absolute worst situations and things go downhill from here.
5. Procrastination
Now feels like the perfect time to go through the spam folders in all of your email accounts (especially the email account you haven't used since your 8th grade AIM days)! It's also a great time to clean your room and do laundry, or anything besides getting ready for finals.
6. Crisis
You realize what is actually happening and ALL of the work and studying you have been putting off. This does not look good, for anyone. Out of pure panic, you power through and do every single thing you can do to improve your chances of getting a passing grade on your exam. This is where the all-nighters and super unhealthy energy drinks come in. Fake it till you make it, right?7. Surreal
Walking to your final exam doesn't seem real. It feels like a dream, but not a good one (definitely a nightmare, but without the zombies). It feels like time has fast forwarded and you missed the week where you were supposed to be getting stuff done.8. Relief
As you walk out of the building and face the fresh, cold Binghamton air, you can physically feel the weight of the week melt off. You did it; you survived! Now it's time to go home and hibernate for four weeks.
Once you've gone through all eight emotions, you are exhausted. Stress is always exhausting, but finals week is exhausting to another level. Everyone on campus is stressed out at the same time and you can feel it as you pass people on the spine. At the end of the day, finals will end at one point and before you know it, you'll be stressing out about next semester's finals.
