The best part of college hands-down is the people you will meet. They will introduce you to new experiences and will often show you a way of life that is completely different from yours. You will meet all types of people and form lots of new friendships. Here are a few of the types of friendships you will form in college.
- 1)The Joey: Your roommate(s): Like Joey, your roommate is the perfect person to go to when you’re feeling down because they know so much about you since well, you live together and spend pretty much all of your free time together. They’ll shamelessly order a pizza with you at 2 am just because, and won’t judge you for eating half the pie, because they ate the other half.
- 2)The Ross: Your class friends. Whether you got put together for a group project, or realize they’ll make the perfect study buddy because you have every class together, this kind of friend is a great one to make in college. They’re the person you can text at 2 AM the night before a huge exam asking them questions they may or may not know the answers to, but since they’re like Ross, they probably know everything. They’re the person you quiz relentlessly in the library and the person you can work on homework with. Most of all, they’re the emotional support you need to get through your classes.
- 3)The Monica: Your friend from home. Technically, Monica, Rachel and Ross were all home friends. But Monica is the best example of a home friend because, since you grew up together, they’ll call you out on your crap because they know what you’re capable of . Your home friend will push you to be the best that you can be in college; whether you’re competing to be the best the way Monica and Rachel would, or they’re just offering you support.
- 4)The Rachel: Your weekend friends. These are the people you see on Fridays and Saturdays because they can always make you laugh and show you a good time. You guys are a little flaky with each other as far as staying in touch throughout the week, and this kind of friendship might seem weird at first, but it’s totally natural to have friends that you spend most of your time with, and friends you spend very little free time with.
- 5)The Chandler, Phoebe, Rachel, Joey, Ross and Monica: Your best friend. I promise you, everyone finds a college best friend. This person won’t replace your best home friend in any way. Best-case scenario is they love your home friends as much as they love you! Your college best friend is someone that will be there for you throughout your adult life, because they get to experience the earliest parts of adulthood with you. You will learn from each other’s mistakes and make memories that will last a lifetime.
College is a time for branching out, so go out there and make some new friends! Having a solid friend group, or even a couple of solid friend groups makes or breaks your college experience.
