5 Stages Of Coming Home For The Summer

Coming home from college for the summer fills us all with a flurry of emotions and thoughts. Within a day, a week, or even a month, you're seriously confused about how to feel and questioning why you ever felt differently. You're not the only person feeling it!

Stage 1: Relief.

Finally, exams are done, you are moved out of your dorm, and you can relax at home! Back to your old routine of home cooked meals, hanging out with your childhood friends, pets, and sleeping in, without the stress of homework and exams.

Stage 2: Sadness.

The excitement of being home starts to wear away as you begin to miss your college friends. You might also feel like you don't have as much freedom as you were used to while away at school. Not to mention your friends from home could be busy and unable to make plans.

Stage 3: Frustration.

Your parents are on you about unpacking, waking up too late, going to sleep too late, chores, summer classes, getting a job, and so on. Then, your sibling starts to take advantage of the fact that you're home and proceeds to pick fights and aggravate you to no end. Ugh!

Stage 4: Excitement.

Finally, everyone is out of school and the weather is gorgeous! Hello long days sitting poolside, or trips to the beach with all of your friends. Family vacations and road trips are only just beginning, and the smell of aloe is prominent because you most likely tried too hard to get a tan and got burnt.

Stage 5: Bittersweet.

Now that its time to go back to school, you're both excited to see your friends and decorate your new dorm room, but also sad to leave your family, pets, and friends behind again. Its okay though, only about 9 months until you go through this all over again!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
