Stage 1: The Freakout
My former roommate and I were both really upset that she had to leave for home after the first semester. We tried to think of ways that she could stay because neither of us knew what we would do without each other.
Stage 2: Filling Empty Space
After she left I had a ton of adjusting to do. Since I was never told that I was going to be assigned a new roommate I decided to move some stuff onto the other side of the room. Then I got greedy. The extra bed turned into my couch, I made the second wardrobe into a pantry and used the dresser as more storage.
Stage 3: The Realization
There was never a clear day to tell the school that I didn’t have a roommate, so I never did. Then we had head count for the building. The RA came in, saw all of my stuff and asked where my roommate was. I explained to her that I was living alone and she was quick to tell me I’d be assigned a random if I couldn’t find someone to room with.
Stage 4: The Search
I didn’t know any girls that needed someone to live with so I was on my own. Lucky enough for me, I met a girl through a mutual friend who already lived in my building. After we got to talking, she wasn’t getting along with her current roommate and wanted to move. We emailed the RA’s and got approval for her to move in with me.
Stage 5: Success
My current roommate has been amazing. We’ve become really close and have gained each other’s trust. Needless to say, I’m glad I found her! We’ve even gotten an apartment for next year already. Let’s just say we’ll be besties till graduation!
