Growing Up, The 5 Birthdays We Most Look Forward To

It's no secret, we all love birthdays. Receiving gifts, having endless people wish you well on your special day, eating lots of cake, and basically just feeling on top of the world. That is our one day of the year where we can desire everyone to focus on us. Each year, birthdays are fun. But cmon you know that there are certain birthdays you look forward to more than any other. We've all felt that turning some ages feels pretty pointless, like 11, or 17, or 20. That's because, at certain ages of our lives, we receive the ability to do more. These are the top five birthdays that we looked forward to the most during our childhood and early adulthood.

10: You’ve done it. You’ve finally made it to double digits. I’m not sure why, but when you’re in single digits you just feel so young, kind of like a baby. But man, once you hit 10, it can only go up from here. You are truly starting to grow once you’ve lived a whole decade and you have so much new stuff to look forward to. This is the start of something great.

13: Yeah, being a preteen was fun for a little while, but it got real old. You started to feel like a little kid again, especially as you moved into middle school. The cool kids are all teenagers. You wanted to grow up just a little bit more and move on to the land of crazy teenage years. And you made it. You could officially say that you were a teenage and blame all your attitude problems on your hormones.

16: Oh man, this was a great one to look forward to. The age you could finally drive. Little do people mention, though, that you can’t actually drive by yourself until you’re almost 17, but still having that nice piece of identification felt great. You wanted to be the first one in your class to turn 16 and the first one to be able to go down to the DMV and (hopefully) pass that written test. Plus, you got to throw an epic birthday party. Boys and girls both having a blast, eating lots of food, and hanging out until the late hours to celebrate this monumental day.

18: After the chaos and excitement of being able to drive finally wore off, you realized you had bigger and better ages to reach. 18 is the year that you can finally be an adult. No more rules, no more having to listen to your parents, and you finally have the chance to prove your independence. At least that’s what we all thought 18 meant. Really, you just became legally responsible for yourself and gained the ability to vote. At least one of those things is pretty cool.

21: Ahh, here it is. The best age to reach. You’ve already passed so many life milestones and birthdays, and this is the last one before true adulthood. The last one until you have the full rights of every citizen. You can finally drink alcohol legally. You can go to dinner with your parents and order a beer. You can go to the bars with your friends and not have to worry about getting caught or arrested. This is such a great age, but once you pass it, there are not many birthdays left to truly look forward to. Cherish and make the most of this time.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
