The 2016 Bucket List

New year, same me.

The 2016 Bucket List

The cliché “new year, new me” seems to never run out of style. But there comes a point where the goals and resolutions one set just are never reached. All one has to do is walk into the gym on the first day of the New Year and then walk in 3 weeks later and the numbers drop significantly. That’s just one example of the many New Year resolutions one sets.

What if you made a list, some sort of bucket list for the New Year, instead of trying to commit to 12 months of change. After all, not all of us need this miraculous change because most of the time we fix something when we see it’s broken. Set mini goals, make a list of things you want to do but never have done or something you hope to work on in small doses.

Push limits, fears and expectations in order to be the best version of you. Experience life outside of the ordinary. Step outside your comfort zone and be the greatest you, you can be.

Listed below is a start, or suggestions, to a bucket list of the New Year. Don’t fall for the trap of taking one thing and running with it. Explore, inspire, don’t limit yourself instead make the New Year enjoyable.

  1. Go camping.
  2. Go out to eat somewhere new.
  3. Find a hole in the wall.
  4. Buy your friends lunch.
  5. Partake in random acts of kindness.
  6. Volunteer.
  7. Share your story.
  8. Don’t lie.
  9. Love deeper.
  10. Laugh louder.
  11. Make a memory box.
  12. Don’t worry about the future.
  13. Go hiking.
  14. Treat yourself to that pair of shoes you always wanted.
  15. Study hard.
  16. Call your family more often.
  17. Count your blessings.
  18. Reconnect with old friends.
  19. Take a road trip.
  20. Visit some place new.
  21. Fail at something.
  22. Treat yourself to girls nights out.
  23. Find the balance between friends, family and relationships.
  24. Go for a run.
  25. Eat healthy.
  26. Find a workout buddy.
  27. Follow your dreams.
  28. Don’t live for others expectations.
  29. Be yourself.
  30. Stop desiring worldly things.
  31. Grow in character.
  32. Gain a new talent.
  33. Embarrass yourself.
  34. Be young.
  35. Face a fear.
  36. Learn to cook something new.
  37. Dance and sing like no one is watching.
  38. Pamper yourself.
  39. Read a book.
  40. Pray.
  41. Start a new tradition.
  42. Reorganize your room.
  43. Clean out your closet.
  44. Live each day like it’s your last.
  45. Take a spontaneous adventure.

Often we miss chances and pass by opportunities. Have some fun this year, enjoy the moments, don’t take things so serious and don’t let money control whether you do something or not. Make a bucket list for 2016, and live up to the hype of expectations you set.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
