When you hear the word "island" immediately what comes to mind is the beach. But, an island is much more than that, especially if it's located on the Caribbean. Here are 10 perks of why living on a Caribbean island is so appealing.

1. The Beaches

The best part about living on the Caribbean is having the advantage of going to the beach whenever. Whether it's summer or Christmas, going to the beach is always an option. The Caribbean stands out for its amazing beautiful beaches that surround every little island on it.

2. The Weather

There are two types of weather on the caribbean, hot or even hotter. The weather is always warm but after all that's what makes it a fun destination on Christmas time.

3. Smaller Distance

One enormous benefit of living on an island is the distance between places. It makes it easier for road trips to be completed in a day and you won't have to worry about time. Also, you won't have to worry about where are you going to stay if its too late. It makes every weekend a mini vacation for the natives.

4. Music

The Caribbean is known for its danceable rhythmic music. The use of many percussion instruments, like the pleneras, congas, timbales or even steel drums, will make you want to dance all day and all night. From salsa, to merengue, to soca, to bachata, you won't be able to resist the urge to get up and party away.

5. The Views

Whether it is the view of a beautiful blue ocean or the view of huge green mountains surrounded by amazing nature, there is always a breathtaking view ahead that will make you stop in the middle of the road to take a look at it.

6. Local Festivals

Festivals on the Caribbean are a serious thing. Due to their historic backgrounds and cultures many of the islands have, you will most likely encounter a festivity if you plan to visit. Whether it's celebrating a Saint or celebrating their heritage, most islands host their own unique festivals through the year.

7. Outdoors Adventures to Connect with Nature

There is always an activity beyond being indoors, whether it's skydiving, snorkeling, rappelling, zip lining or even surfing there is always a way to have fun and connect with nature at the same time. If you are not the adventurous type, you have the option of visiting famous landmarks and historic monuments.

8. The Food

No food compares to a caribbean cuisine, from fresh seafood, to fresh vegetables, to fresh fruit, it's always good to catch a bite around any of the islands.

9. Sunrise/Sunset

Because of location and size the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets are on the Caribbean islands. Though that may not be a true fact I can assure you, you will see breathtaking panoramas of the sun. You can enjoy this wonderful spectacle either through the mountains, through the city or through any part of the coast while on the beach.

10. Native Animals

What makes the islands on the Caribbean so unique is the impressive exotic animals each island has of their own. Animals like the Coqui from Puerto Rico, Blue iguanas form the Cayman Islands or the Yellow Billed Amazon from Jamaica make it even more special to be part of the Caribbean islands.

Being born on the caribbean is a privilege, in most cases you have the best of both worlds, a little bit of the city and the beauty of paradise. I was lucky enough to be born and raised in one of the Caribbean islands, Puerto Rico. I learned to appreciate that what makes living on the Caribbean so extraordinary is the feeling of being on a vacation every day.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
