That Awkward Moment When...

The moments ya hate to see, but love to laugh at.

Awkward moments.

We all get them, whether it be once in a blue moon (OK, let's not lie here) or maybe 20 times a day, like me. They make life interesting and remind us that we are all human, and therefore that we are all a little weird. Wake Forest University's small campus adds a fun twist to these moments, because inevitably you will again see those people who saw that awkward moment of yours, and yes -- they will laugh at you.

Here are some of the most common awkward moments I experience pretty much daily at Wake. I’ve also included specific reactions. See below and enjoy.

1. That Awkward Moment when... you and the hot boy from Econ both reach for the sugar cookies at the same time and brush hands.

Me: Oh, God, Oh, God, abort, abort, serves me right for getting this cookie, ugh.

2. That Awkward Moment when... you’re walking toward someone who’s walking toward you and you kind of know them but not really and you both look at the sky until the last possible second before saying "hi" right when you pass.

Me: Wow the clouds are so pretty… and this tree… and “Oh, hey, what up?” OK, phew.

3. That Awkward Moment when... you hook up with a guy you’ve never seen before and suddenly he’s anywhere and everywhere on campus.

Me: Are we kidding? I decided to wear this today and I’ve seen him eight times… oh, there he is again, great! Awesome.

4. That Awkward Moment when.. you start to say something, think the better of it, so stop mid-sentence and walk away before anyone can call you out on it.

Me: “Oh my God, she aldknfaslfd… ha, bye; gotta run, late to class!”

5. That Awkward Moment when... you’re walking up that freaking tiny staircase in ZSR Library and you run into like 10 people on your way to Gov. Docs.

Me: “Oh, excuse me! Lemme just… squeeze by… oh, sorry, didn’t mean to step on your foot there. OK, have a nice day!”

6. That Awkward Moment when.. you look at your grade online, die a little inside, and scream a less than appropriate word in front of a group of important-looking people with briefcases staring appallingly back at you.

Me: “Aw goddam*** #$&%... Oh, thought I was alone, I’m gonna just walk away now.”

7. That Awkward Moment when... you decide to put on a dress and people are genuinely surprised that you can look decent one day out of the year.

Me: Well shoot, I thought I looked good this whole time…

8. That Awkward Moment when.. you catch the same step every single time you go up that staircase by Benson and you fall every single moment in front of many people and just pretend like nothing happened.

Me: Just keep walking… they’re not staring… your beauty and your grace.

9. That Awkward Moment when you wear Crocs out.

Me: I actually find this quite normal and not awkward at all

10. That Awkward Moment when... you make a Harry Potter reference and no one picks up on the joke because no one even knows what a Blibbering Hummdinger is.

Me: Such Muggles, ugh.

11. That Awkward Moment when you make plans with one person, forget, make plans with another person, and run into first person whilst with second person.

Me: I really should get a calendar, or maybe just ground myself. Yeah, I’ll do that.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
