Before going through recruitment, I had no idea what being in a sorority would bring me. I just wanted to belong to a group who accepted me for me. Little did I know that I would get so much more. After the first day of recruitment my mind was completely made up. Now, I have been in house for almost two years, and I just want to say thank you.
I will forever be thankful to be a part of a sorority that has a genuine sisterhood. My sisters never judge me or belittle me. Each and every one of those girls encourage me to do my best, and they push me to be a better person. I can be my goofy self without judgement. There are so many types of girls who are different and unique, and I love it. We encourage everyone to be themselves because if they were anyone else, it would not be the same. No matter what, I know that if I am going through something tough, I have a HUGE support system to get me through it. Not only are my sisters here for me, I will always be there for them.
My sorority holds me to a higher standard. The creed that I live by makes me a better person, and I love the fact that each line goes back to a specific Bible verse. I would have never imagined being a part of an organization that encourages my faith, but I am so glad I am. Last year a member on Exec told me I would be the perfect addition to the recruitment committee. My sisters saw the potential in me that I couldn't even see in myself. Serving on recruitment was an awesome experience that would have never been possible without the help from my sorority.
I love that even though there are so many of us, we are all so close. Our bond is so strong, and it is hard to understand if you aren't a part of it. I'm not saying I am best friends with all 170 of the girls, but I am saying that they are all my sisters and we are all close and connected. I would do anything for anyone of these girls and I wouldn't want it any other way. If I go up to the house, I don't have to know who is in there. All I know is that whoever is up there hanging out will welcome me with arms wide open.
The formals, date parties, and philanthropy events are all so fun, but my favorite moments are the ones that you don't expect. The memories that I cherish are the impromptu movie nights at the lodge, car rides around town with your sisters just to get ice cream and talk, and (even though we are all exhausted) the week of recruitment.
So, I guess I'm just trying to say my sorority rocks. Without my sorority, my college experience would not be near as memorable. I have met the girls who will eventually be my bridesmaids, the girls who know the real me and love me for me, and the girls who know my potential even if I don't. So, thank you. Thank you for making me the person I am today. Over the past two years I have grown into a better version of myself. I absolutely love my sorority, and I am so glad I am apart of such a loving and genuine sisterhood.
