Ah yes, it's that time of the year. The leaves are falling from the trees onto the ground, pumpkin spice everything is advertised in coffee shops, and you are "so done" with the semester. You have so much work, you're pulling all-nighters left and right, and your motivation is much like your bank account money; it's nonexistent. If only there was some way students could have a break before finals! But wait, there is. It's called Thanksgiving Break!

The week before Thanksgiving is truly, and this is no exaggeration, hell week. I guess you could say every week before a break is like that. You really want to be on break ("can it be break already?") and you just are "so done." Yes, so done. Trust me, this is close to home. Anyway, here are 10 thoughts everyone generally has during the week before that fantastic time of eating turkey and being grateful for what you have:

1. Can I please just go home now?

Being home is great. If you travel though for Thanksgiving like me, just being with family is great. Gotta love it!

2. I can't wait for five days of freedom! No work!

A word of advice on this one: DO WORK ON FINALS. You don't want to come back and cram in two weeks. Trust me, I've learned from experience. Freshman year struggles.

3. Do I really need to do homework tonight? Really?

The answer is alway yes, but nice try.

4. AHHH there are so many tests and quizzes that I have to study for that are right before break! What do I do?

Oh, the college struggle. Just study though and you'll be fine.

5. Thanksgiving dinner before Thanksgiving in the dining hall? Yay!

I don't know if you have, or had, this at your college, but that is why college life is the best! At Dean College, we had our Thanksgiving dinner last night in the dining hall and it was amazing. Such great food!

6. The leaves look so pretty! I love crunching my foot in the leaves as I walk to class. Yay, fall!

*Crunch crunch crunch* Oh, what's that? No, I'm not crazy. I'm just trying to make a sound effect. Okay yeah, I'm still getting stares but it's fine.

7. Can I get some stuffing on stuffing on stuffing with my essay?

As you can tell, I'm a huge stuffing fan. That's my favorite Thanksgiving food. Shout out to all of you dear readers who like it too! If stuffing is not your thing, no worries! You can replace this sentence with whatever YOU like. I'm not judging you, I promise. You do you.

8. Why is it dark at 4:30?

This can go for any time after the fall daylight savings, but when you're trying to focus on getting your work done before the break when it gets dark out, it zaps my energy. I'm ready for bed at 8:00pm.

9. I'm going to miss my friends.

I always miss my friends on break.

10. Family, here I come!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
