Thanksgiving: The Holiday of Giving Thanks
Have you ever noticed that we go from Halloween to Christmas? Do you notice Thanksgiving is not even mentioned? Why do we think about Christmas instead? Thanksgiving is as much of a holiday as Christmas and Halloween. Thanksgiving is a tradition as well as Christmas, Easter, and other holidays. So why are there Christmas decorations up in the store after Halloween concludes? I do not have an answer for that question, but I'd like to remind what Thanksgiving is all about.
For Thanksgiving, we gather with our loved ones and we share what we are thankful for. I am thankful for my family and all my friends. I am thankful that I am alive and well. I am thankful for all of life's opportunities that I have a chance to take. I am thankful for the little things in life, the ones that make life worth living. We should not take things for granted, because soon they will not be there, especially our family members and friends. And we will have nothing but regret and grief. We should remind ourselves that we should be thankful for the things we have, because they have made us who we are as a person.
We eat with our family and this holiday brings us together as much as the other notable holidays do. We spend time together, make memories, and we cherish that time together. It is another reminder that when life is tough, we can look back at these times spent with our loved ones and it is enough to keep us going, keep us motivated to continue living life. And we get to eat lots of food, like pumpkin pie, turkey, mashed potatoes, corn and all that deliciousness. Who wouldn't be looking forward to that? I still find myself looking forward to having two Thanksgiving feasts with my families.
Hold off on Christmas until Thanksgiving is past us. Christmas gets into the way of Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving should be regarded as highly as Halloween and Christmas. Thanksgiving is not just a party; it is a tradition. What would it be like if we didn't have Thanksgiving?
