I don't like Thanksgiving. Come Nov. 1st, I blast holiday music, hang twinkle lights in my room, put cinnamon candles everywhere, and all around am ready for the December holidays. To me, Thanksgiving is a holiday with an awful history, crappy food, and forced company with family.
The history is not what you think it is...
Everyone thinks that Thanksgiving is an amazing holiday with a beautiful history; when the settlers and Native Americans put down their weapons and enjoyed food and gave thanks together. While there is a fraction of truth to this, what happened before hand and after is ignored. History is told by the victors, so the truth rarely surfaces.
Seven hundred unarmed Pequot Indians were murdered when the colonists and the Squanto Native Americans surrounded the Pequot's main living building at dawn, shooting those that came out and then burned the building to the ground. They then had a day of thanks with the Squanto because the Squanto Native Americans had signed a treaty with the colonists unlike the Pequot. After Thanksgiving, the Squanto and Colonists continued to rape, pillage, kill, and sell Native American tribes that refused to sign their treaties.
So by all means celebrate the genocide of almost a thousand innocent people by eating a huge bird, but I don't think it's something that should be celebrated.
The food is crap...
Turkey, yams, and stuffing are disgusting. Stop lying to yourselves. Turkey is like an awful chicken that takes hours to cook and makes your house insanely hot. Yams are just gross potatoes. Stuffing is wet bread with lame spices. Go love yourself and eat a ham and scalloped potatoes....like we eat during the December holidays!!!
There is no Thanksgiving music...
There is so much wonderful Christmas, Hanukkah, and many other December holiday music! There's something for people who like any genre of music! There is no music for Thanksgiving because let's be real, what would we sing about? Binge eating for two hours? Roasting more than the turkey, spending all day cooking awful food?
Thanksgiving isn't even about being thankful anymore...
It's about binge eating now, which trust me, I have no problem with. I shamelessly eat a massive bowl of mashed potatoes or green bean casserole. Yes, you may go around the table and all list one thing you're thankful for, but are you really all that thankful? Is that really what the day is about for you?
Let's be real here. The only real pros of Thanksgiving is getting time off from school or work and watching football. Love yourself and prepare for the December holidays instead. Fill your home with cinnamon, mistletoe, twinkle lights, and all things happy instead of genocide related holiday sadness.
