As Halloween ends, the Christmas decorations go up and instead of getting into the Thanksgiving spirit, Christmas lists start being made and Santa finds his way to every mall in America. Walking through your local mall and hearing every Christmas album on shuffle may put you in a good mood, but if you are listening to this music before Thanksgiving, it can get a little annoying. Honestly, I would love to listen to Michael Bublé or Justin Bieber's Christmas album year 'round, and it is hard not to get caught up in the idea of Christmas lights, peppermint hot chocolate, and Hallmark movies when November hits.
However, we can't forget the importance of Thanksgiving and why we celebrate it.
Being such a great holiday, Thanksgiving is one day out of the year where you can eat anything and everything you want, judgment free. From turkey and potatoes, to pie and cake, the food baby is guaranteed to make a visit that night. You get to spend two hours of your life stuffing your face with endless amounts of homemade food, so what more could anyone ask for? Also, if you host Thanksgiving at your house, you are bound to have leftovers for at least a week. This alone makes Thanksgiving one of the top holidays of the year.Along with the endless amounts of food, Thanksgiving break is a time spent with family and friends. Particularly for college students, it is the first time since you left for college that all of your friends from home will be together again. Being able to spend time with them and see how well they are doing in college makes this holiday even better. Also, Thanksgiving is blocked-off period of time every year to spend with your extended family. Not being able to see them on a regular basis, it is the perfect opportunity to catch up on each other's lives and enjoy each other's company, surrounded by good conversation and good food.

With the lovely food and great company, Thanksgiving proves how much you have to be thankful for. Whether it is a great family or a warm, homemade meal, Thanksgiving weekend gives you the perfect opportunity to think about how many amazing people and things in your life. However, as the holiday approaches, take these moments as opportunities to verbally thank the people who have made an impact in your life and let them know how appreciated they are.
So yes, Christmas is great, but don't forget about the food, family, laughter, and happiness that comes with Thanksgiving. And next time you hear a Christmas song in November, you can sing along, but don't forget about the great holiday in between Halloween and Christmas.
