A Letter To My Sisters

I have a lot to thank my sisters for over the years from helping me out with studying to helping me through life's battles.

A Letter To My Sisters
Alyssa Ochss

To my two wonderful sisters,

This is going to sound mushy and cheesy, but I really do appreciate and love everything that you guys do for me and have done for me. I am glad to have you in my life because otherwise, it would be uninteresting and boring without you two by my side. I know that we have our fights and our arguments, but even the biggest arguments we manage to push aside and help each other out when we need it most and I am grateful for that.

Thank you for cheering me up when I have had a rough day at work or am just feeling a bit more depressed than usual. Coming home and getting a hug or watching a funny video together always makes me feel better. It's also awesome to know that you guys are willing to go the extra mile to cheer me up or have fun with me. Your hugs mean the world to me and they make me feel a lot better. Thank you for nerding out with me. We have our own interests and our differences, but there are some memes and other fandom ideas that we share in common and I'm glad I can be myself around you guys. You accept my nerdy adventures such as cosplay, drawing, and writing and don't ask me why I am so weird.

Thank you for the support. There were many times where I didn't feel confident or I was second guessing myself and you two, along with our parents, were there helping me through the toughest decisions of my life. From choosing which major I should go into to picking out which dress I should wear to a formal ball, you guys were there helping me along the way by offering grade-A advice and life lessons. When I have any form of anxiety or depression, I know that I can rely on you and our parents to understand what exactly is going through my mind without me having to express it in full.

Thank you for being people that I can look up to. You guys probably don't know it, but I look up to you two a lot as role models. You both are extraordinary young women, confident in themselves and something that I aspire to be. You both are passionate about what you do whether it be helping kids through a five-week summer camp or teaching people about the grammar and structure of German and I hope I can be as passionate about what I do like you guys.

Thank you for helping me study. You guys know some of my weaker subjects are your stronger subjects and vice versa. Helping me out with finals or just a simple vocab quiz goes a long way and I appreciate the help.

Thank you for all of the funny faces. We have a tradition in our little group of three where we make funny faces at each other from across the room. Whether we are at dance or at home, the funny faces always make me laugh even if they do make me laugh at an inappropriate moment. Thank you for letting me borrow your clothes willingly or unwillingly. I'm sorry for taking your clothes without asking, but I'm glad I get to share a style with you guys.

Thank you for accepting me for who I am and helping to fight battles that I wouldn't have been able to fight by myself. Being accepted by two people who I love and I look up to, as well as our parents, is the best feeling in the world and it lets me know that I can go to you guys about anything whether it be anxiety or my next cosplay plans. We all have our battles that we can't fight on our own and you guys have helped me through a few of these by comforting me or by helping me figure out what my next move. I will be there for you and I will help you two kick the butt of whoever hurts you and we'll be side by side.

I love you two with all my heart and you two make great role models. I'm sure you will succeed in whatever you put your mind to. Again, I thank you guys for being you!

Love,

Alyssa

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
