Looking back at the person I was coming into college last fall, I think I've changed a lot. Granted, I've been changing because I have had to make some adjustments now that I am a full fledged adult, but I think I've gained some of my most positive attributes of my character through joining greek life in college. I came into college as a super awkward, not too confident, kind of lost soul (like most freshmen). Now I'm still pretty awkward, but being a member of Theta has taught me so much about myself.
I remember the first time going to chapter I was surrounded by so many incredible women. As a new member, and as a freshmen, I was so inspired by the fact that I was associated with these wonderful ladies. I was in a place where everyone had something unique and inspiring to share. They all had their lives together, knowing what they wanted to do; whether if it was career-based or even where they saw themselves emotionally, I was always impressed by them. Surrounding myself with these women gave me motivation, which is something that I believe is so important in young adults years.
In other instances, I've had to discover myself in my sorority. When put in committees, or when assisting with our annual philanthropy event, I've had to step up, become more confident in myself to make sure I was doing something beneficial for my chapter. One event that tested my boundaries of my comfort zone was participating in Greek Life's Skit. At my school every sorority and fraternity perform a seven minute skit in front of the whole school. Is this something I would have accepted to do willingly as an incoming freshmen? HAHAH NO WAY JOSE! But then during my spring semester, there I was, standing on that stage with a bunch of my sisters cheering to the sight of me making a fool out of myself. This event in particular was a huge moment in feeling at home at my school. When put in such a vulnerable situation, where you are super duper scared, and you have so many humans supporting you, that's what makes home a home.
So thank you to my sisters, for inspiring me with their many endless talents, and thank you to Kappa Alpha Theta, for bringing out the best version of myself that I didn't know I had in me.
MAJOR TLAM HAPPY DAYS
