Be Thankful For What You Have

Some people are less fortunate than you. Be thankful for what you have.

Be Thankful For What You Have

Some children grow up in less fortunate homes than others do. Be thankful for what you have.

Don't be disappointed when you don't have what others do that are the latest trends. Be thankful for what you have. When your parents sacrifice everything they can just so you can have & do nice things, be thankful for what you have.

There are single parents out there struggling to make ends meet. I know this because I watched my beautiful mother do this. When I was nine years old my father passed away and ever since then I only had her to rely on. We did have some benefits from my fathers social security but that alone didn't always seem to make ends meet. She was a single mother of two children. She gave us anything and everything we wanted. I wouldn't call us poor or rich. We were average. But she always came through and gave us the things we asked for. I can remember for a whole year I begged for braces because my teeth were so crooked and I always got made fun of. Then around that same time my vision started to weaken. She got me glasses. I never wore them because I didn't want to be a nerd with braces and glasses. I let two pair of glasses that cost I don't know how much money go to waste. Be thankful for what you have.

When I was old enough to get my drivers license I would need a car. I asked for a specific car but I got something else. I didn't pitch a fit because I knew how hard my mother worked just so I could get a car. I still have it also. I take care of it because she gave it to me for working hard in school.

Every Wednesday my mom would take my brother and I shopping. We would always get something. Most of the time more than one thing. I look back at that now thinking, "She really loved us & tried to give us everything we wanted. And she did."

I also remember when my dad passed my mother told us that if we wanted something all we had to do was tell her and she would try her best to get it for us. She told us never to steal because there were people who had nothing when we had a lot more to be thankful for.

Be thankful for what you have.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
