In preparation for Mother's Day, flowers are being shipped, sentimental pictures are being framed, and gift cards are being purchased at the mall. This year for Mother's Day, I would like to gift my mom with a more personal sentiment. Mom deserves to know why I'm extra thankful for her this Mother's Day and every other day of the year, as well.
1. She never missed a game.
It never mattered how far away my field hockey team traveled to play. Mom was always there cheering me and my siblings on at all of our games. We never minded her bringing along her iPad and magazines to keep her company, because just the fact that she was there was enough for us.
2. She taught me to never put beauty first.
Mom never protested my sister and I dressing up in gowns like the princesses that we are, but she never allowed us to put beauty before fun. We were encouraged to go play football outside with our brothers and not to worry about getting messy.
3. She instilled the importance of education in my life.
Mom instilled the virtue of education to be a top priority in mine and my sibling's lives. She never belittles my accomplishments, and always encourages me to further my education, so that I can be the best version of myself.
4. She supports my passions.
One of my passions in life is being a fangirl and I've got to hand it to her...it's not easy being the mother of a boy-band obsessed daughter. Two cardboard cut-outs, 5 CDs, and 4 concerts later, and mom continues to keep up on who Harry Styles is dating.
5. She's always down to hang out.
Whether we're drinking wine on the couch while watching Modern Family, or going to music festivals together, my mom is my favorite person to hang out with.
6. She takes care of everything.
She never complained about cleaning my hockey uniform, taking me to the doctor, or being my personal chauffeur for 16 years. Moms always make everything okay.
7. She's a cool mom.
I'm especially thankful for having a cool mom. She introduced me to good wine, The Who, and Star Wars...and that's all I really need in my life.
8. She always puts her kids first.
I highly doubt that mom went to Sesame Place twice because she really wanted to, or that she loved watching the cartoon version of Robin Hood 12 times a week. She always put our wants and needs before her own.
