Here's a big fat thank you to the teachers that actually cared.
Maybe you failed a test, felt horrible about it, but yet refused to talk to the teacher about getting help. It wasn't that you didn't want to succeed but maybe that you were embarrassed. Most teachers I had didn't bat an eye. But not you. You cared. You cared about my grade and about my success. For some, teaching is a job. A paycheck. A chore. But it wasn't for you. It is your passion. My success is your ultimate goal.
Here's a thank you to the teachers that taught us about life.
Instead of teaching from the books, you breathed new life into lessons. You related them to real life situations. You made them interesting. Even after you made us watch the dreadfully boring videos, you always made a point to offer a different perspective. You made it interesting. You made us eager and excited to learn.
Thank you to the teachers that taught us how to think.
Instead of forcing us to think inside the book and by the book, you taught us new ways. You showed us that everything is not always as it seems. That we don't have to listen to what the media tells us. And most importantly to offer our own new perspectives and ideas. You taught us to be innovative, creative and to push ourselves to new limits.
Thank you to the teachers who supported us.
When we were up too late studying for another class, or out too late working and forgot about that assignment that was due, you didn't scorn us. You offered that extra credit, or a chance to stay after class to work on it. Or maybe you even came in early on your own time to help us with it. Most importantly you were supportive. When we felt like giving up, you told us we were enough. That we were capable and that we could do it through our own perseverance.
But most importantly, thank you to the teachers that never gave up.
When we came in for the third time in a row so you could reexplain the assignment, you didn't roll your eyes, you didn't tell us to ask a friend. You helped us. On your own time. You found new ways to explain it, taught it in different techniques and helped us learn in our own way.
You didn't get enough credit, and we couldn't thank you enough. Thank you to the teachers that care.
