A Thank You Letter To My Sorority Sisters
ZTA

Thank you to my Zeta Tau Alpha sisters,

Thank you for all the ups and downs. Throughout this first year we have had a whirlwind of ups and downs. Some days it was hard. But thank you for not giving up on ZTA, and thank you for not giving up on me.

Thank you for being my second wardrobe. To the sisters I borrowed tons and tons of clothes from... I love you. You guys saved me from those FUN ritual and chapter fines. Because we all know I owned a total of three dresses before joining this organization. Now I have about 10...Oops

Thank you for involving me. Thank you for taking me under your wing and showing me the college ropes. I wouldn't have met all the people I did my first year without every single one of you inviting me out, pushing me to close the Netflix and get out of bed, and teaching me those ever so complicated line dances at Boots, which I still can't do!

Thank you for being the sisters I never had. Growing up with all boys, I never really experienced a sisterly type of relationship. Even throughout high school, I never found myself being close with girls. So entering college and becoming a part of an organization filled only with girls was a little scary to be honest, but you guys welcomed me with open arms and have shown me what being a sister really means.

Thank you for being my private "not payed" tutors. Coming into college as a Biology major with a pre-professional tract in pre-vet, I knew I had a long journey ahead of me. I would be lying if I said I had an easy time with the classes, but through it all my sisters were always there to teach and push me. This meant a lot, but what meant more, was they themselves took time away from their harder classes, aka ORGANIC CHEMISTRY, to help me.

Thank you for teaching me about giving back. People think we are just a group of women who pay for friends, party 24/7, and stay being selfish. This isn't true. Thank you for teaching me that these stereotypes are not true. Thank you for letting me be apart of one of the most amazing philanthropy (Breast Cancer Awareness and Education). Thank you for letting me make a difference in the world and thank you for teaching me what giving back actual is.

Thank you for guiding me through my first year. We all know college freshman can get a little crazy, but I knew that I would always have my sisters to look out for me through anything. Through all the ups and downs, in and out of ZTA, you guys made my first year amazing. Even when I made horrible mistakes, you guys were always there to pick me up and patch me up, and talk some sense into me.

Lastly, but not least, thank you for accepting me and all the weirdness that comes with me. Throughout high school, I never had a good group of girlfriends, and when I would, it only seemed to last a couple months and then it was like we were never even friends. I never thought such a large group of women could accept me for who I am in any shape or form, but you guys proved me wrong.

"People ask why I am in a sorority and I trying to explain all the things a sorority is that they cannot see. A sorority is more than letters on a sweatshirt, I say. More than traditional songs, a gold pin, rituals, an obligation, or a way of life. A sorority is learning is learning about people, a sorority is giving without expecting a return. A sorority is earning respect from others, as well as for yourself. A sorority will not solve all your problems. But I have made good friends and found confidence there to help me take life one step at a time."

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
