To My Best Friend’s Boyfriend,
Hey. How have you been? I know we don’t really talk much, but believe it or not, you’re actually a pretty important person in my life. No, you may not be a sibling, cousin, or even a close friend, but you’re my best friend’s boyfriend, so you mean something to me.
I wanted to first and foremost say thank you. Thank you for being there for her while I’m away at school. Thank you for making her believe in love again. Thank you for messing up so I can still be there for her. But mostly, thank you for constantly reminding her how amazing she is, especially when she forgets it herself.
Thank you for dealing with her sass. I thought I was the only one who could do that. Thank you for putting her on the pedestal she deserves. Thank you, thank you, thank you for always putting her before yourself, because you know that is what she needs.
I have been there for it all. From the time you were some older mystery man to actually meeting you at our end of the year barbecue. Hell, I’ve been there for the fights, the break-ups, the make-ups and everything in between. And I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
I used to resent you. I felt like we were competing for her attention. But as long as we have and reach the same goal (her happiness) then it doesn't matter! You’re now part of her family, so, therefore, (like it or not) we are now family. As I think you’ve come to notice after me third wheeling most of your date nights, we are a packaged deal.
When I first met you, I was scared for her. You were some high school senior who could have easily taken advantage of my best friend and broken her heart. Thank God that wasn’t the case. You showed you actually cared for and about her. And here we are, three years later and I still have the same concerns, but I know deep down that you’re her happy ending.
Let's just get one thing straight; you may have been here for the last three years, but I’ve been here since the awkward middle school years. The blue eye shadow and crooked teeth, I’ve seen it all and I still love her.
All in all, you’re a pretty great guy, as I’ve heard over and over for years and just started believing (sorry). And I’m pretty happy that you’re in her life, as well as mine. So no, we may not talk on the daily or go out of our way to see each other (because that would be weird), but you’re honestly so important to me because you’re important to her and I think that is just great.
So when is your next date night? Because I can’t wait to crash it!
With love,
Her best friend
