Fandoms are defined as: "The community that surrounds a TV show/movie/book etc. Fanfiction writers, artists, poets, and cosplayers are all members of that fandom. Fandoms often consist of message boards, livejournal communities, and people." Sometimes people take their passion for fandoms too far. I'm not talking about the the intensity of their commitment; rather when people bully one another because of their interests in said fandoms. That is absolutely not okay and I do not condone it.
Being a part of a fandom is a lot more than being bullies toward each other.
Being a part of a fandom is like being a part of a family you always wanted.
Some may be able to relate when I say this: I am in a lot of fandoms because I have many interests. It is going to happen naturally as we go through our lives because our interests grow and evolve.
To All Fandoms:
1. Thank you for giving us a chance to be a part of something bigger.
Fandoms, whether they are for Marvel superheroes or J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series for example, are pretty huge when you think about it. This is why it truly feels like you are apart of a huge family: because you meet new friends with the same interests all the time.
2. Thank you for continuous life lessons.
Within most fandoms, there are many life lessons that we take from them. We are truly growing as young individuals as our lives go on with these timeless life lessons to take with us and pass on.
3. Thank you for inspiring us.
Thank you for inspiring us to make fanart, write fanfiction, cosplay as our favorite characters, make videos relating to these fandoms and overall become a lot more creative. Creativity is very important and fandoms fuels our wild imaginations in a positive way.
4. Thank you for motivating us to improve ourselves everyday.
Like others in fandoms, I have depression and anxiety. Being a part of so many fandoms has collectively helped me fight these twin demons in order to love myself and improve. Without my fandoms, I would not be who I am today.
5. Thank you for these timeless gifts.
Being a part of the many fandoms I enjoyed as I grew up creates pure nostalgia. To be able to go back in time and entertain our nostalgia by watching these older films or playing these older games is truly an amazing opportunity.
6. Thank you for changing our lives forever.
With fandoms, my passions and wild imagination have been allowed a positive outlet throughout my life. They are able to help me remain a child at heart. From the life lessons to the memories, there are only so many ways to say it but:
