I wish I could go back and thank every single one of my past teachers. Their classes shaped me into the person I am today. The person with a fervent love for learning. I love school, which I know may seem crazy to some of you. I understand why people don’t like school: it’s a lot of work, you have to sit still and you are made to learn some really difficult subjects. Fortunately for me, I love sitting still while doing work to learn tough concepts. I can’t help but attribute this to the many fantastic teachers I’ve had over the years. This one’s for you.
To my primary school teachers, who fostered my love of reading: Thank you. Being a reader is a massive part of my identity. Without you, I may not have ever read books that changed my life. Also, thank you for teaching me cool little devices to memorize tricky subjects. My first grade teacher taught me a trick I still use every single time I add numbers.
To my middle school/junior high teachers: thank you (and I’m sorry) for putting up with pre-teen Danielle. I was a know-it-all (still am). I’m sure I got on your nerves. Also, you’re a saint for teaching kids at this age. Stinky, hormonal pre-teens. Thank you for allowing me to make mistakes and figure out who I want to be.
To my high school teachers: thank you for not letting me slack off. I have a tendency to procrastinate, so sometimes it was tough to keep up with all the assignments. Thank you for helping me figure out what I wanted to do with my life (a special thank you to my biology/anatomy and physiology teacher for showing me how cool the human body is!). Also, the review games. How do you guys come up with such creative ways to help us review for tests? Very impressive.
Finally, to my college professors: You guys are the best. Going to a small school has enabled me to get to know every single one of my professors. I know I can always go to any one of my professors for help in any area of life. I’ve done it before and I will again. You guys have made college everything I thought it would be and more. I’m looking forward to spending two more years with you on the Hill.
