Thank You So Much, Best Friends

An open letter to everyone who has impacted my life

Thank You So Much, Best Friends
Rachel Haselhorst

Throughout my life, I've been placed in different worlds and looked for people to help me find my way. No matter what, there was always someone I could find to keep me from feeling alone. The lessons I've learned and knowledge I've gained from these friendships are immeasurable, so I'd like to say a big thank you to everyone who has helped me get through this crazy game of life.

Thank you for pretending to be my twin sister at the Zoo and taking my last name every once in a while.

Thank you for always responding to the notes I would pass to you during math class (and show them to the guy I liked when I asked you to).

Thank you for being someone I could rely on during dance class to help me lighten up and realize that dance is meant to be fun.

Thank you for helping me get the courage to ask my crush to the dance, even though he was going with another girl...

Thank you for helping me transition to a new high school in a different state and always carpooling with me when we could.

Thank you for helping me laugh at myself every once in a while.

Thank you for inspiring me to be a blues fan.

Thank you for always giving me a hug during choir and for taking cute pictures of me.

Thank you for being my brother, sister, angel, mersister, and best friend.

Thank you for reminding me that I am enough.

Thank you for making fun of our Theology teacher together.

Thank you for making me a huge One Direction fan and always calling me "razle dazle" in your funny voice.

Thank you for always being willing to house me when I couldn't get out of St. Louis.

Thank you for being willing to come to Illinois sometimes.

Thank you for putting my brother's shinny hockey set to use when he's not home.

Thank you for being a fellow country music lover.

Thank you for our sass-offs.

Thank you for the best senior year spring break trip ever.

Thank you for being my dates to dances when I didn't have one.

Thank you for keeping our Snapchat streaks (even though I make it hard sometimes).

Thank you for keeping me in the group chat. I love hearing how everyone is doing in college.

Thank you for the stars, foxes, Disney movie nights, French text messages, Masses, roofs, and everything in between.

Thank you for still being my friend even when we get called back for the same role.

Thank you for walking with me from East-Jesus to class sometimes.

Thank you for kickboxing with me.

Thank you for being amazing roommates who don't keep me from singing in the shower.

Thank you for sacrificing the easy way of getting through your day to be there for me.

Thank you for dancing with me, being social with me, auditioning with me, and being a go-to person when I need something.

Thank you for sharing your talents and gifts with me and for helping me feel comfortable doing the same.

Thank you for doing community service with me even when I don't feel like going.

Thank you for being a great sorority sister and someone who keeps it real with me.

Thank you for all of our coffee dates we've had and the many more to come.

Thank you for listening to my many phone calls, helping me organize my life, and pushing me to be the best I can be (and those muffins are a nice plus, too).

Thank you for being my study buddy, my therapist, my hype-man, my director, my heart-meander, my hugger, my go-to movie date, my caregiver, my food pal, my motivator, my inspiration, and my person.

Thank you for helping me grow, being there for me when I fall, being there for me when I soar, accepting me where I am, and for every last second, we get to spend together.

Everyone in my life has made an impact, whether they know it or not. These are just some of the little things my best friends have done that have impacted who I am today. I am so grateful to have so many best friends in this world, so thank you.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
