Most new members of a sorority could agree that they were, at one point, intimidated by the senior pledge class. Sure, they could be the nicest girls on campus, but put a badge on them that says "senior" and it's done. Look up "intimidating" in the dictionary, and you'll find a face of a sorority senior right next to it.
After a few weeks of being a new member, drunk bathroom bonding, numerous late nights at the library, the seniors stop looking like just the older girls. Viola, they're your friends. All is well. Except the only problem with becoming close to anyone in a pledge class above you, is that they graduate before you, and it's absolutely heartbreaking! You learn to love these girls, and POOF. They're in a swirl of caps, gowns, and sashes and move onto bigger and better things.
The seniors leave behind much more than pictures on a composite though. They leave behind a legacy of memories. They're role models for us as college women, and as women in the real world. Although I've never sat down with a senior and asked her to "teach me something", there are plenty of things over the past year that I've learned from my upperclassmen sisters. This article is dedicated to any senior sorority out there, because I would like to give you a big thank you from us younger members.
Thank you for showing me what it means to make the most of your four years in college.
Thank you for taking us under your wings, and showing us the way.
Thank you for never letting me stand at a party alone.
Thank you for inviting us to your tailgates, because we had no clue where to go.
Thank you for giving me the reassurance that I needed when times got tough.
Thank you for showing me how to paint a cooler, how to stencil, and introducing me to Modge Podge.
Thank you for showing us that it is more fun to act like a fool, that we should never take anything too seriously, and that it is more fun to dance like idiots than to ever try and impress someone.
Thank you for being the best role models of "hoes before bros."
Thank you for being the role models we look up to.
Thank you for the drunk pep talks we needed in that bathroom.
Thank you for never letting us leave those parties alone.
Thank you for intimidating the life out of any guy we assumed to be decent enough for us.
Thank you for leading us in the direction of strong sisterhood and strong friendships.
Thank you for showing us that keeping friends in other sororities is invaluable.
Thank you for being there when times got tough.
Thank you for all the laughs and memories.
Thank you for passing down your amazing leadership skills to us.
I hope you seniors know that we will never forget you. We will always look up to you as the ones who were able to go out every night and still somehow graduate in four years. You are truly the girls that we look up to, and we will always admire the way you held your heads high even when your mascara was smudged from your cheek to your eyebrow.
I can only hope that my senior class will be as admirable as yours.
Thank you, seniors. We will miss you so much.
