A thank you to random housing:
I think the biggest fear that majority of freshman in college face is random housing. Just the simple thought of living with a complete stranger that we don’t even know. Someone who may not even share the same passions or similarities that we do. We can’t help but to feel overwhelmed, scared, and intimidated by the reality of facing the new experience. We get so caught up in hoping that they’ll like us or that they won’t think we’re weird at the very first sight, that we forget how to be our honest and complete selves. Even though we exhibit the symptoms of a lost child in a toy store, we still try to act calm and collected.
Eventually we open up and allow these once strangers to be acquaintances. To Friends. To potentially best friends. When we once hated the housing system, we soon begin to thank them.
But for what?
Well, simply a thank you for giving me a friend.
Thank you for giving me someone:
Who will take 11 o’clock Dunkin’ runs with me at night.
Who holds me up when I’m stumbling down the stairs.
Who wipes my tears when I’m crying over a stupid boy we met one night.
Who will buy $30 worth of Dominos with me on our late nights.
Who will love and scavenger for food just as much as me.
Who will stay in with me on those weekends when we would rather wrap ourselves in the fuzziest blankets than be a normal human.
Who will be a “mom” to me when I need them too.
Who will be the one to fake cry to save me from an awkward or uncomfortable situation.
Who will argue with me about who’s bring what to school once we got a house together (Fridge, Plates, Pots & Pans, etc).
Who will let me borrow their clothes when my closet has “nothing in it”.
Who will stay up with me for hours just to help me respond to a simple text from the boy I’m into.
Who will hold my hand when I’m scared or emotional.
Who will binge watch any Netflix series and movie with me.
Who will support even my wildest passions and dreams.
Who genuinely cares about my well-being and me.
But most importantly, thank you for giving me someone to be my sister away from home.
They say you find your lifelong friends in college, but I found much more than that.
Sincerely,
A Girl Who Despised Random Housing
