Mother's Day. It's a day where we celebrate our moms and everything they do for us. I can't say much for everyone else's mom, but I can say that I love my mom. She is the absolute best and deserves to be celebrated every day. So here is a much needed list of thank yous for my mom.
1. Thank you for helping me adult.
I have no clue how to "adult." I really have no adulting skills. So thank you for helping me with things like filing taxes, opening a bank account and even making my doctor's appointments. Without you I would be sick with no money and the IRS would be after me. So thank you for helping me do adult things.
2. Thank you for being encouraging.
You always instilled in us to never to give up. You were always at every high school play, band concert and music contest. You never missed one and always had something good to say even if the performance was a flop. Especially since I've been in college, a simple "You can do it. Just a few more weeks" from you is one of the most encouraging things.
3. Thank you for loving me even when I drive you crazy.
I know that I'm not the easiest person to get along with. Anybody can attest to that. Sometimes we argue and I know that I make you insane, but you still love me and care for me even when I'm driving you up the wall.
4. Thank you for listening.
I know that you don't always care about the drama that's happening in my life, but thank you for pretending to. Sometimes I just need someone to vent to and you let me do that.
5. Thank you for your warm hugs.
Sometimes you just need a hug. Other times just any old hug won't do. You just need a Mom Hug. I have needed a Mom Hug for about two weeks and I am counting down the days until I can get one. Your hugs are the best. They're warm and tight and they just make you feel safe. Your hugs are like home.
6. Thank you for making me pancakes and chocolate syrup when I come home.
This may seem like the simplest thing, but it is one of the things I love most about being home. Your pancakes are comfort food and I love that you try to make them at least once when I'm home on break.
7. Thank you for taking care of me when I'm sick.
At 20-years-old, I still only want my mom when I'm sick. Now that I'm away at college for most of the year, you can't really be here every time that I'm sick, but you still try your best to take care of me. I remember last semester when I had a really bad cold. I called you and told you I was sick and a few days later I received a package with cough drops and cold medicine.
8. Thank you for showing me that you care.
Whether it's pancakes and bacon on a Saturday morning or a package full of coloring books and Little Debbie cakes, you are always willing to do small things to show that you care.
9. Thank you for making mistakes.
You never claimed to be the perfect mom. You never claimed to have it all together. Thank you for that. It showed me that it's okay to be human. You showed me that it's okay to mess up and that messing up doesn't make you any less of a person.
10. Thank you for working hard.
You have such a great work ethic. Watching everything that you do at your job and for our family has shown me what it means to be a hard worker.
11. Thank you for being my mom.
Maybe this is a weird thing to thank someone for, but I'm going to thank you for it anyway. I couldn't imagine having anyone else as my mom. I love that you're my mom and I wouldn't trade you for anyone in the whole world. I love you, Mom.
