My Dearest Mother,
As you are well aware of, I had not your typical upbringing. While dad and I spent a lot of time together and have an amazing relationship, you were the one to raise me. I had no siblings, so since I was seven years old it was just you and I, and you have always been and always will be my best friend.
You taught me to be independent. You told me to be a leader and never ever a follower. You embraced my dreams, acknowledged my wings and taught me how to fly. Ever since you and I have been flying to the rhythms of own hearts. You have been my biggest fan and my cheerleader, supporting everything I have ever done and always been on my side. And in the times that I was wrong, you still stood by me and encouraged me to be the best me that I can be, and to always be myself.
As I got older and more independent, we stayed as close as ever. You always wanted me to feel comfortable telling you everything. You knew I was going to make mistakes and try new things and not always make the best decisions. You weren't blind, you were realistic. You taught me to always trust you and be open with you and in return you had the same trust in me. You knew that I would always go to you when I needed help and we had our famous rule. The rule that I can call you at any time day or night for help and there will be no questions asked until the next morning. You didn't shelter me. You let me be my age and you let me grow up.
You and I tell each other everything. Some parents may think it is wrong to let their kids make mistakes, not go with the flow and be their child's best friend. Some parents shelter their children, but you did the opposite. You exposed me to all the aspects of life, the good, the beautiful the bad and the ugly and you prepared me for my future in the best way possible. You helped me grow into my own person, and that's because I had the best role model ever. You. You are strong, kind, smart, beautiful, independent and a leader. And you always loved me for me. Thank you mom, for never sheltering me, raising me right, being my best friend and being you.
Love,
Your Daughter. XO
