I would have never believed you if you came to me 2 years ago and told me that my mom would be my best friend, the one that I talk to everyday while I’m away at school, or the first person I would go to when I’m upset. My mother has taught me so much through her unimaginable amount of strength. She has been through hell and back, and I feel like this is the perfect time for her to finally be acknowledged and thanked for everything she has done for us.
I do not know much about my mother’s childhood, but the things that she has told me make me realize how lucky I have it. My mother grew up in a time where you have to become independent very quickly. She would tell me stories about how she would come home from school and have to make dinner for everyone at the age of 12. I didn’t even know how to boil water at the age of 12, let alone make a whole meal for my family. She would mention to me how she would work endless hours at this restaurant with her creepy boss, and believe it or not she was only 15. Hearing about her childhood makes me thankful for the one I had, and makes me realize how great I have it. She has always given me and my brother the best that she can, and always making sure that we were put first. Countless times she has helped us out with problems, helped us succeed in all areas, and supported everything that we want to do in life. She has never once told us no we can’t do that because of money, she has always found a way to help us to chase our passions and dreams. She continues to go above and beyond for us, and I know she always will.
Sadly, my mom never saw how strong she is until just recently. Once my mother and father spilt, she has now seen the world through a different lense. I saw this different side of my mom come out. Something sparked in my mom, and suddenly this side of bravery, courage, and strength has surfaced. She has become much stronger and braver as the days go on. She has always told me to become independent and soar through life's challenges, but now it’s my turn to tell her to do that. She is becoming exactly what she wishes she was, but even better.
Mom, you have always been this strong woman. It was just a matter of time for you to realize it. So, mom, I bet you are reading this in tears right now and you are probably wondering how could I have become this strong young woman that I am today? The answer to that is because of you. Without you constantly bugging me to do this and do that, and all of the extremely over supportive speeches, phone calls, or care packages, I would not be where I am today. You are the reason I am the way I am. So do me a favor and remember 3 very important things that will get you through any hard challenges that you might face:
- “You're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” - Winnie the Pooh
- “Don’t just fly, SOAR.” - Dumbo
- I love you more than you’ll ever know
Thank you mom for everything you have done, and will continue to do for me in the future.
Love,
Your Daughter
