If you've spent a lot of time on the internet, you might have come across a popular YouTuber with a unique voice and an infectious personality. Yes, I am talking about the famous King of the Squirrels: Markiplier.
Markiplier is a "Let's Player" on YouTube who makes videos of himself playing fun video games, performing hilarious skits, and answering the comments of his millions of fans. Last week, Markiplier reached an incredible milestone of over 12 million subscribers to his YouTube channel and rather than getting a big head and praising himself, Mark thanked his many fans and shared his appreciation for all of the friends who have always supported him.
I thought this would probably be a good time to write an article showing my appreciation for Markiplier. If he ever happens to read this, I want him to know that he has made a difference in my life and the lives of his many subscribers and fans.
Over a year ago, I started spending a way too much time on the internet (coincidentally, that is also around the time I started college) and YouTube became my go-to source of entertainment. I ended up coming across Markiplier and I thought he was absolutely hysterically amusing. I ended up spending over an hour watching his videos. The next couple weeks, I watched Mark play Five Night at Freddy's, Happy Wheels, Surgeon Simulator, and so many other awesome games.
However, I was not watching for the games. I watch the videos because I wanted to see Markiplier. For me, he never seemed like a distant celebrity. Markiplier was like a friend who I could spend time with and who wanted to make me laugh.
Markiplier has always been caring toward his subscribers, reminding everyone that he appreciates them, encouraging people to pursue their happiness and dreams, and just being plain friendly. If ever there was a time that I felt stressed out or overwhelmed by the world, I could lie down, pull out my phone, and watch one of Mark's videos and I found myself busting up with laughter.
If you are reading this Mark, I want you to know that you always make me feel good about myself and you have encouraged me to make my dreams a reality. I know that I am not the only one who has been impacted by you, Mark. So, thank you for being you and creating a supportive and loving community through your YouTube channel.
