Dear Long Distance Best Friend,
Thank you. Thank you for coming into my life and never leaving, despite the 300-something miles in between us. Despite our hectic schedules getting in the way of talking all the time, despite making new friends who live close to us, thank you for always keeping our friendship a priority.
Thank you for listening to my endless rants about the people back home and pretending to like the new friends I made, even though you knew they weren't going to stick around for the long haul like you are.
Thank you for listening to my boy problems and offering to book a one-way plane ticket to kick anyone's butt for making me cry.
Thank you for always being my safe zone where I could tell you anything without fear of judgment or worry that you'll share my secrets.
Thank you for always putting your house up and making me feel right at home when I visit. Thank you for sharing your parents and your family with me. I love knowing that I have a second family no matter what happens.
Thank you for the random Snapchats of things that remind you of me, or the constant tagging each other in memes that make you say, "yep, that's so her."
Friendships aren't easy, and long distance friendships don't make keeping in touch any easier, so I'd also like to say I'm sorry, too.
I'm sorry for all the times I ever made you feel less important because I forgot to text you back.
I'm sorry for not being able to spend your birthdays with you or celebrate monumental occasions with you.
I'm sorry we sometimes go weeks without talking, even though we're both at fault and we both are busy, I still always feel guilty when I realize it's been awhile since we've had a chance to catch up.
I'm sorry I can't always be there for you when you need me.
I'm sorry I'm never just 10 minutes away to have sleepovers or go on random adventures or 1 AM Taco Bell dates with.
I'm sorry we live so far away from each other.
But I want you to know, I wouldn't trade our friendship for anything. You are by far, the most special and treasured friendship I have. Some people may say we're the cursed ones, to have friends so far away. But I think we're the lucky ones. To think you have someone out there who is always thinking of you and who has endless love for you no matter what. Well, that's pretty incredible.
"How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard."
