A Thank You Letter To The First Guy I Ever Loved

Dear Daddy,

I’ve loved you ever since the first moment I saw you, you’ve always been my number one guy. From teaching me how to ride a bike, to teaching me how to pick the nice guys, thank you for everything.

Thank you for always being there for me no matter what. I remember coming home from elementary school when I was younger because some kid wasn’t very nice to me and just sitting with you against the wall for hours crying it out, talking it out, laughing it out. I have no words to describe how thankful I am that you have always been there for me no matter what. Thank you for being there to catch me when I fall, and hug me when I succeed.

Thank you for looking out for me, always. As annoying as I thought it was when you wouldn’t let me go to that party in middle school, or wouldn’t let me go out with my friends on a Friday night, you had a reason for everything and I still trust that you always made decisions with my best interest at heart.

Thank you for giving me your sense of humor, strong personality, and talents. I’m so proud to say that I’m a complete weirdo and whenever I say that you’re the first person I think of, because you’re the weirdest person I’ve ever met. I wouldn’t want anyone else’s sense of humor and I’m so happy I have yours so we can share that together because no one else understands it.

Thank you for showing me what passion looks like, and for teaching me what it really means to go after your dreams. I always remember hearing the story about how you got your start, and how you trusted your talents so much to take that leap of faith. I know what it truly looks like to go after something you want so thank you for showing me what that looks like.

Thank you for loving me unconditionally no matter how much I screwed up. There isn’t anything like the love you get from a father, and I appreciate that love you have always given me so much. No matter how much I messed up, or how mean I could be to you, you never stopped loving me and I love you so much for that.

Thank you for all of the memories we’ve made together, I will keep them in my heart forever. Thank you for all of the endless hugs you’ve given me because I can’t tell you how much I miss them sitting here writing this. And thank you for trusting me to do life on my own and giving me my wings to fly. You’re the best and you will always hold a special place in my heart.
