A Thank You Letter To My Young Parents

A Thank You Letter To My Young Parents
Alisia Saucedo

My parents had me at the young age of 18 years old and had my brother a few years later. Looking at my life now, I couldn’t be more grateful for my young parents. Being a parent in general seems like hard work, but being a young parent is something that I have to give extra props to my parents for.

Dear parents,

Thank you for raising me even when you were just kids yourselves. You were straight out of high school when you brought me into the world. I grew up with you and I learned how to live life with you. You made mistakes and did what you could to make sure I was taken care of, even if that meant becoming adults earlier than most. Because you were teen parents, of course we did struggle, but as a child I never realized how much we struggled, because you never made me feel that way.

Because you were teenagers you also introduced me to the world of music, and for that, I am thankful. I am grateful that I am able to share my favorite type of music with you and have you actually like what I am listening to and listen to it yourselves. I also thank you for introducing me to Tupac, Biggie, SPM, Cypress Hill, and even some classic Spanish music. Not to mention the fact that I get to brag about the fact that my dad attended an Eazy-E concert. I learned good music from you and now at my age I feel comfortable listening to my music and sharing it with you.

Thank you for being the “cool” parents. I don’t know how many times my friends have stormed into my house as my dad cracked jokes with them and my mom gave them a hug. My friends would come into my house ready to tell my mom all the latest gossip and laugh at my dad as he teased them. Thank you, mom and dad, for making my friends feel like our home is also their home.

Thank you for understanding me. The biggest thing that I can take away from having young parents is how great it is to have two people that just get you. I know some people have problems with their parents understanding where they are coming from because of the age gap, but you just understood me, and because of that, I was able to talk to you about anything. Not only could I tell you everything, but you trusted me, and for that, I respected you.

Mom and Dad, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thanked God for giving me you two as parents. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thanked God for putting me into your lives at such a young age and giving me extra time to be your daughter. I am forever thankful that you had me at a young age and that you never gave up. So, thank you, mom and dad, for being my number one fans and my best friends.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
