I wanted to give you a big thank you, Fluvanna County High School. I am one of those weird people that actually enjoyed high school. Yeah, you read correctly. I couldn't wait to finally be a freshman, to be as cool as my big brother, and to finally sit at the back of my middle school and high school bus. Everything about being in high school was cool to me. I mean seriously, a) you could use pens, b) they used colored paper, c) there were actual bells, and d) "awesome" pep rallies.
As you could probably guess, the idea of high school that was in my head...was absolutely not like it was in reality. I can't say it was worse or better, but it definitely wasn't like High School Musical made it seem. Not to mention I most certainly didn't have a summer experience like in the movie Sleepover. Anyway, as for most people, my four years in high school really did fly by. It's slightly unbelievable to think I will never buy a frozen round pizza again from that small cafeteria during D lunch or pretend to have to go to the bathroom to roam the halls.
You're probably thinking, "Okay, this fool graduated high school going on four years ago now." Yeah, I sure did. With every year passing though, I get another reminder of just how good high school was to me. I may have struggled to figure out how to study for particular classes in college, I may not know correct formatting, and simple math wasn't completely engraved in my head...but the life lessons high school gave me are ones that really will stick with me forever.
Thank you for allowing me to see that teachers really do care.
Thank you for the memories spent.
Thank you for letting me see that everyone messes up sometimes.
Thank you for showing me that some friendships do indeed last.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to do what I love.
Thank you for teaching me that you won't always succeed.
Thank you for easing me into the "real world."
Thank you for the study guides.
Thank you for the laughs at inappropriate times.
Thank you for Friday night football games.
Thank you for the daily pizza fix.
Speaking of lunch, thank you for the under $3.00 meals; college is expensive.
Thank you for the ability to have re-do's and make-up tests.
Thank you for giving me 4 years that I will always care for.
Most importantly, thank you for setting me up with college, and thank you for being the reason why I am who and where I am today.
Love,
Your high school alum.
