A Thank-You Letter To My College Roommate

Through hell and high water, you've been there through it all.

I need to send a proper thank-you to my number one girl. The girl who has seen me at my worst and also has celebrated with me when I hit the top. We've gone through major ups and downs, and had some serious apartment mishaps with leaking roofs and massive centipedes invading our home. We've been through it all; hell and back. Our good times will always remain and prevail over our hardships. Here's to you. Thank you for sticking through it all and still being my best friend at the end of the day.

Thank you for…

1. Watching Beyoncé videos on repeat with me.

Because she "slays" and is our motivation to keep killin' it day to day.

2. Being moral support and assisting me to kill all of the spiders.

Because sometimes, those spiders have brothers. And sisters. And mothers. And a whole family that like to come out with fangs and fuzzy hair that I cannot handle on my own.

3. Going on late night grocery runs.

Because sometimes one of us is craving frozen pizza or popcorn and we need to have it at this second.

4. Listening to me rant about my stress.

Whether it was with work, school, family or friends... Because Lord knows I needed to vent about some of the crap that had been thrown my way throughout the years.

5. Being there for me when I've had too much to drink.

Because I've had those nights of too much fun or trying to drown out the stress or pain and you've been there to hold my hair and pour me a glass of ginger ale whenever it was needed.

6. Having my back. No matter what.

You literally will take my side no matter what happens. Whether it be a disagreement with a friend, a breakup, or a professor that gave me an impromptu assignment. You support me and have my back.

7. Being happy for me when I have good news.

I love when I come home with a success or an achievement, and we can cheer together about the awesomeness!

8. Being supportive of me when I have bad news.

Because I've had a ton of that in the past two years of living with you. And you've always been there to hand me some chocolate and remind me that it's going to be OK.

9. Not judging my drinking habits.

Hey, life is hard sometimes.

10. Yelling about our problems from room to room to each other.

This is just an occurrence I love. Especially just repeating, "I don't want to do this!" over and over so the other one was aware of the work we really did not think we could finish.

11. Being a part of my already crazy family.

All of our crazy minds fit into one big mess. My parents look at you as one of their daughters as it is.

12. Telling me how it is.

You are so straightforward and let me know if I'm overreacting or if I deserve to be upset. Either way, you always feel the same emotion I do at the time.

I cannot thank you enough for being the best friend that I could have ever asked for. I also wouldn't have wanted to experience all of our life changes with anyone besides you. Seven years of friendship and still going strong!

Sar and Chels forever.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
