Life. It's a simple, four-letter word that so many of us take for granted. When a baby is born, people say it's the "miracle of life." So, why is it that life isn't looked at like a miracle for the entirety of our existence? From the moment we enter this world, our life has begun. Situations and circumstances, experiences and people, have already begun to shape the life we live. Our parents, guardians or caregivers are there giving their lives to us. Teaching us how to walk, how to talk, how to live. We continue to reach milestones as we progress throughout our years. Those milestones ensure we are healthy and it makes those around us happy.
But it seems, that once we reach the age of increasing independence, life just doesn't seem so great anymore. Once we're able to think for ourselves and care for ourselves, we begin to forget that life is truly a miracle. Pervasive thoughts enter our minds from our surroundings. We begin to compare our life to the lives of others. We question why we don't have what they do. Their lives seem so much better. But are they really?
See, the thing is, with other peoples' lives, they're not yours. You wouldn't be you if you lived their life. Your life is a unique and wonderful thing shaped by all the experiences you have had. Your life also has a huge impact on the experiences of others. Without your life, another person's life wouldn't be the same.
My life has been blessed with many things. My life has given me experiences that molded me into me. From birth, life granted me the opportunity to live in a loving household with parents who were married. Life gave me a little sister a few weeks before I turned two. Life gave me that inseparable bond called sisterhood. I am blessed to have experienced that. Life gave me the ability to go to school and get an education. Life gave me the opportunity to be healthy and smart. Life also gave me struggles and hardships, but throughout those struggles, I learned who I am and I learned to appreciate life a whole lot more.
It makes me sad when I see people who struggle with suicidal thoughts. They don't see the value of their life or the value it holds in other peoples' lives as well. Life is what gives you the opportunities to do whatever you want to and be whomever you wish to be. Life is what gives you breath and life is what gives you a purpose. Being alive gives you the ability to make changes in the world and to help others. It lets you choose if you'll be a good person. You have control over a miracle; how cool is that? Never forget that life begins a miracle and it should continue on that way. Don't let the monotony of life cause you to forget it's value. You are a life and you have worth and a purpose in this world.
